I can be such an idiot sometimes (@ish)
What on earth is wrong with me? I told MIL today that I have to file taxes in the States and Germany. I thought she knew. She asked me if ctbaby will have to do the same, and idiot me said, "yes." AAHHHH!!!!
Now, she wants to know why on earth ctbaby has dual citizenship! I tried to explain that it opens up doors for him, like he can study in the States without a visa. She said, "why would he want to study in the States? Surely, you don't want him to do that!" And then she added, "maybe he'll be like his American grandfather, who doesn't seem to like traveling."
Seriously? Who on earth would want to limit their grandchild like that?

I find it difficult to have these types of conversations with people.
The good thing is that you are an American citizen, so you can say: because I'm an American. Ctbaby is already living in Germany, what does it hurt for him to have some piece of half of who he is? Not to mention, you are living away from where you grew up, why wouldn't you think he would want to do the same?
Ha! Kelly, I like that idea! Sometimes people really ask our reasoning for the dual citizenship, but I never thought that my MIL would be so ridiculous about this! Even if he has to pay taxes one day to the US, they won't be very high, and that would mean that he's doing well for himself
She won't like that I want him to go to summer camp, spend time in high school in the States either!
This is one of the reasons my mom tried to use to argue against me marrying DH (seriously). "You'll have to pay taxes in both countries!"
Yikes. When you have people asking are they just curious? Or I they shocked that a kid could have dual citizenship?
It's not like you have to jump through that many hoops to have ctbaby be a dual citizen. Weird.
Seriously summer camp in the US sounds like a great idea for the future too.
