In the form of a bill from the IRS. Apparently they never got (read: they lost) the form I sent in last year where I checked off the box that XH now has to repay the whole 2008 First Time Home Buyers credit because he kept the house.
Since the form got lost last year, they adjusted my repayment amount, thinking I still owed the $250 annual payment. There must have been another miscalculation in my return because when I got a cryptic letter from the IRS saying the amount was changed, it didn?t ring any alarms. Had it been a straight $250, I would have realized what the problem was, but since it was a funky amount, I didn?t catch it.
H and I just got off a 1-hr call with the IRS to straighten it out because they deducted another $250 from our return this year, saying I owed it on the old house. I have to do some monkeying around and resend some things, and will eventually get the $500 back. At some point XH is going to get the bill for that. I was wondering why I hadn?t gotten any nasty calls or emails.
Re: Whoops, XH is in for a surprise.
Oopsie.
He has to realize that this was out of your control. Why the heck would you pay on a house that is not yours?
Why does if have to be paid back anyhow if he kept the house?

I had to quote you in order to read it (the font was messed up on my screen for some reason). I hate tax season. I'm sorry that you had to deal with that.
Also, do you think that your XH will flip his shyt when he gets the bill?
Quite possibly. He shouldn't be surprised. His dad is a CPA, and a good one at that, so I'm sure he knows the rules on this. My guess is that they think I don't know the rule and am possibly repaying myself, since it hasn't yet been brought to his attention that in fact he will have to pay it. They probably think I'm an idiot and he got lucky.
