Valentin Imperial Maya?

Tell me the good, bad, and ugly please!

It's hundreds cheaper pp than somewhere like Secrets Maroma, yet 4 stars, gets good reviews...but I'm just sort of "eh" about the pictures I've seen.

Re: Valentin Imperial Maya?

  • We loved it so much last year that we are going again this year, if that tells you anything. It's really pretty, nice rooms, nice beach, giant pool, small quieter pools, good food, and fun nightlife. What do you want to know about it? The only thing we didn't like last year was that we couldn't see the ocean from our room, but we only got the very basic room and went with it again this year.
  • We went there for our honeymoon--we loved it! The upsides are that there are some yummy food choices, drinks were made and delivered quickly, and it didn't seem super crowed. However, we did go in June (hottest days of the year). Downsides were the walk to the beach (probably a 5-7 minute walk, so not bad... but we weren't right on the ocean/couldn't see the ocean). Like the PP, we had a basic room, but the room was still pretty spacious (soak tub, double sink, shower, toilet room, bedroom, sitting area, balcony).

Overall, it was a good deal and we felt like we were taken care of. I would go back. Have fun on your vacation!

  • We are going next month to VIM with another couple and my sister. From ladies on this board, other travel boards I have read, and Trip Advisor, I am sure we will have a great time and that we picked a good resort. As long as they make good cocktails, that is all my group cares about :)
  • My opinion is older - I was there when it opened and loved every minute of it.  That was my fifth trip to that particular area.  I have stayed at Secrets as well (Capri and Riviera Maya before it changed to Excellence).  I prefer VIM to Secrets, personally.
  • Any thoughts on why the price is so much lower than a lot of the other options in that area?  Since I'm comparing so many resorts, I wonder if I'm missing something.  It looks like all the amenities are comparable.

What's the "vibe" there?  Super active, party 'round the pool?  Super quiet?

    Towel game?

Food?  I know it's AI, so the expectations are lower, but H insists that we must go somewhere with good food (as much as can be expected for AI).

  • I really don't know why the price difference is so big. We were there to party and found places to do that at all hours that we wanted to (we were there with a group of ten). The beach was pretty quiet and we walked by one pool where we felt bad talking because it was so quiet there, so I would say you can find all sorts of vibes there. There is a great cover band that plays outside at nights and we danced to that til about one every night. There are also shows, a sports bar with pool tables and games, and a nice bar/lounge that is quieter and classier, if you want to call it that.

No towel game when we were there (June). We always found chairs where we wanted them and at least three together. We just put our whole group's stuff by three chairs because we didn't need chairs for everyone, but someone always wanted one, so we used them.

I really enjoyed the food. I dont mean for this to sound braggy, but I have been through culinary training at le cordon bleu, so I know food pretty well, and I loved most of my meals. There were a couple of off things (room service was not good, but my h thought it was), but overall it was very good. Sushi was great last year!!

One of my favorite parts was that it was all adults. There were couples, groups, friends, families, all sorts of people. The staff was really friendly, too.

Wow, I am apparently a vim commercial:) we wondered about the price difference the first time too, but now we love the price difference and are glad it's cheaper!!:)

  • Regarding the price difference.  You are not paying for the "name" so to speak.  Secrets, RIU, Iberostar, etc. all have multiple resorts and a reputation.  VIM is the only location currently in Mexico.  They have other properties, but not in MX.  That may be part of the price difference. But I feel that you get a very similar experience as the properties listed.  In fact, I like VIM much better than Secrets Capri.

The food was my favorite out of all the AIs we have stayed at.  I was especially fond of the sushi there.
