hot rollers advice
Hi Ladies,
I'd really like to try hot rollers on my hair in the morning. I'm kind of looking for any advice anyone has...what work the best, whether I shouldd get velvet or non-velvet, etc. My mom has never used them so I have no point of reference here! I love the vintage look, but would also be using them on less casual days to just give my hair some added volume. Again, any advice would be appreciated!

I love hot rollers! Trial and error will help you figure out what works best for you (how long to leave in, how many to use, which way to roll your hair etc).
I recommend getting ones with metal prongs that slide over the hot roller (almost like a long oval that is open at one end). Other clips like the picture below leave marks on my hair (might not for everyone, but I have fine hair and it looks ridiculous).
And the pins never hold my thick hair. I think this just depends on what kind of hair you have.
Personally, I prefer the look I get with a thick-barreled curling iron -- like a 1.25" - 1.5".
I prefer more beachy waves, so I like tutorials like Veronika's and TiffanyD.
I also think it takes almost the same amount of time as the rollers, at least for me, I've never been good at getting them in quickly.
Thanks! I have a curling iron, and have enjoyed the results I've gotten in the past, but for some reason it hasn't been working for me for the past few years. I commute via public trans, and need something that will hold my curl (at least most of it) in the windy weather. The curling iron curls haven't been seeming to do that for me!
I guess I should've included my hair type as well. I have fine hair, but have a decent amount of it. About shoulder length and naturally straight, but not bone straight. I have a little wave to it.
Any imput on the vetvet/non-velvet rollers? Or good sprays to use that will leave my hair mobile (for the wind) but will still keep the curl light and bouncy? I have LOVED Grund finishing spray in the past (when I used to have success with a curling iron), so I think I'll try that again to start with...

What kind of curling iron are you using?
The Conair/Revlon kinds Target sells NEVER last in my hair. I got a Hot Tools one (not super pricey, like $40ish) and the curls last a solid 24 hours and usually it's a bit wavy still the next day.
The L'Oreal Elnett hairspray is the best I've ever used and the only thing that holds without feeling stiff.
I don't like the velvet ones. I think they snag more than the plain old pronged plastic rollers I have.
What I do recomment are the Caruso steam rollers, which I swear by. They use steam instead of heat, so there's much less damage, and the curl lasts much longer, IMO, than plain old hot rollers.
I also favor the plain pronged pins when using hot rollers; my hair tends to be on the plentiful side, but if I can't get them to stay, it usually means I've put too much hair on one roller.
