Re: The Friday Five
1. 100K each to ASPCA, GEMS, Rise Above, Unicef, and Elizabeth Stone House.
2. Special occasions only.
3. My grandparents wedding photo and my grandmother's stewardess photo from the 50's. She was gorgeous.
4. I would talk to them on the way to the interview. Then plan an in-person chat.
5. Hmmm..."I've got a really big heart/I just can't catch a break" from a Ryan Adams song
1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? I would donate it to causes I stood by and supported, for example, Massachusetts' Project Bread and their Walk for Hunger I attend almost every year. And the HRC, which is probably the biggest cause I can get behind right now. And/or local animal shelters. Also, cancer research, though I would be very selective regarding who would get that money.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all? It really depends. It's been a while, but it was just recently I sent a long-lost friend a card for her 30th birthday, and it was enough to reconnect and rekindle our friendship. If a good friend is celebrating a birthday or a wedding or a shower, and for some reason I will not be able to attend or won't see them I will send a card.
3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept? my grandfather's silver cigarette case. It was the only memento my b!tch of a grandmother gave me of his, and it's one of those things I just remember him always having from my childhood, and it even still smells like his tobacco... so though it's not the most ideal memento of his, it's still mine to have
4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do? I would still talk to my friend because if they're going to be calling me at 4am, I know it's gotta be important. Plus, at 4am, I'm pretty much close to being awake for the day anyway.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person? "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? The American Cancer Society. I have several family memebers pass away from cancer so it would go to them.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all? Nope. No one actually. Maybe we should have a niner pen pal thing lol.
3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept? My blue teddy bear named blueberry. I have had him since the day I was born.
4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do? Probably listen for a bit then ask to meet up with them the next day.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person? hmmm good question.
1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? since you cannot give any one person more than 13k without taxes, I would start there with my family. I would give the same to my grandparents, marks family - the rest I would designate to charity to help offset the tax burden.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all?
This is actually one of my things this year. I am trying to send hand written cards to close family and friends for their birthday if I am not celebrating with them. My aunt and grandparents are GREAT at this and I love getting the mail. I try to reciprocate.
3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept?
I have a few- my moms wedding dress, her necklace and pin from her nursing uniform. I also saved her letters regarding my birth which I cherish.
4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do?
talk them through it- since I have already slept until 4am, I should be great.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person?
well behaved women seldom make history...
1. I would pay off my Moms debt, donate 100K to the local no-kill shelter, some to the local library towards a new facility, some to the Cancer Collaborative at a near by hospital
2. I send birthday cards. It feels more personal than posting on someones FB wall.
3. The twist tie "engagement" ring that DH made me the first night we ever hung out.
4. Talk to them. I'm usually up at 4am anyway!
5. "In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back." ~ Charlie Brown
I like that quote because it's so true. You live your life and there aren't always answers for what's going on, you just have to wing it.
1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars?
It would all go to St. Jude. I would have paid for 1/730th of the cost of operation for a year, so still a small donation, but a really meaningful one for me.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all?
I also try to send mail. I'm working on packages for my friend with cancer every 2 weeks, I mail to MIL at least once a month, and I am now trying to send little surprises to BFF as well.
3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept?
A necklace from my family's jewelry store in Ireland.
4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do?
I'd talk to them. I always answer my phone, no matter what. Jobs/ opportunities come and go but friends are what matters.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person?
well behaved women seldom make history.. (Kel, this is mine too!)Stand up for something you believe in.
1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? I would probably try to keep it local - $250k to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, and $250k to Arkansas Children's Hospital. Money for my family would come out of my $500k.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all? I don't send regular letters, but I do try to send birthday cards as much as I can.
3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept? I have a ring that my grandfather had made for my grandmother that has his birthstone, her birthstone, and my mom's birthstone. He ordered it and then died suddenly of a brain aneurysm a few days later, so it didn't come in until after he'd died and it was a surprise for my grandma. She always said that it reminded her that he was always there with her.
4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do? I'd probably just get up and talk to them. 4am isn't that far off from when I normally get up anyway.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person? "How frail the human heart must be -- a mirrored pool of thought..." Sylvia Plath

1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? Easy - I would give 250,000 to THON (Penn State's dance marathon to find a cure for pediatric cancer) and give 50,000 each to my cousins who have astronomical student loans to pay off.

4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do? Depends on the friend. Probably talk for a couple of minutes, then explain about my interview and set up a time to call after my interview so I wouldn't be distracted.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person "everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay, it's not the end"

I would split it between the more responsible members of our family.

I send cards to my nieces and nephews for their birthdays, but that's it.

I don't know if it is really a memento, because I wear it all the time. But it's the first necklace charm J bought me.

Talk to my friend, I can function on no sleep.

1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars? I would pay my friends' student loans, and give them money for their kids to go to school, so they don't have to worry about it.
2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all? I really only send Christmas cards through the mail.

4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do? I guess I'm getting up at 4 am. It would definitely be important if someone's calling that early/late.
5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person? A few: "You can't win if you don't play" "Fake it 'til you make it" "It's not what you know, it's what other people think you know"
