The son, Douglas Kennedy, is charged with endangering the baby and physically harassing two nurses in the encounter, in January.
?My father was taken away from me when I was a baby,? Mr. Kennedy said after a court session on Thursday. ?The only thing I wanted to do that night was to be with my son and hold him in my arms.?
On Jan. 7, Mr. Kennedy tried to take his 2-day-old son from the maternity ward at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, about 40 miles from Midtown Manhattan. He said he wanted some fresh air for the baby, but nurses tried to stop him, citing hospital policy. A tussle was recorded on hospital video. Security guards were summoned, and the baby stayed in the hospital.
One nurse said Mr. Kennedy twisted her arm as she tried to prevent his leaving with the baby; another said he kicked her.
Mr. Kennedy, 44, said on Thursday, ?I was protecting my son from a complete stranger who tried to grab him from my arms.?
His wife, Molly, said, ?Our lives have been turned upside down simply because my husband wanted to take a walk with our son.?
Mr. Kennedy?s lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, called the prosecution ?a disgrace? and said Mr. Kennedy had received a letter from a personal injury lawyer representing the two nurses.
Mr. Kennedy was arrested in February after the hospital reported the incident to the police and Child Protective Services. A state investigation found no evidence of child abuse. Mr. Gottlieb has moved to dismiss all charges.
Amy Puerto, an assistant district attorney, said in court that the prosecution would fight the motion.
Mr. Kennedy, a reporter for Fox News and the 10th of Robert and Ethel Kennedy?s 11 children, is next due in Mount Kisco Town Court on June 14.

Of COURSE it makes sense to let randoms saying that they're totes the dad to traipse around outside with newborns. That could never ever lead to negative repercussions for the hospital. But of course, he's super special because his dad was a politician who was assassinated a few decades ago. Because that makes him relevant? IDK.
Why the f*ck didn't they charge him with felony assault?
Re: Douglas Kennedy is an entitled twat.
He works for Fox News? He's lost all rights to invoke his father's name.
I remember being incredibly pissed off at this story when it first came out. You do not cite the assassination of your father as a way to get out of things just because he was JFK. Lots of kids have had their parents taken from them at a young age for lots of different reasons and the rules still apply!
It drives me insane when "famous" people expect to be recognized and allowed to do anything they want. I honestly think I have a better chance of recognzing my morning news anchors than 99% of the celebrities in the world if I were to see them out and about and that's the actual celebrities, not Douglas Kennedy. The hospital can't let you say you're the kid's father and take him! They need to protect their clients because heaven forbid something happen to one of those babies. I'll be you if he'd been able to take the kid and something had happened, he'd be suing the hospital for allowing him to remove the child.
Moron.
HA!
Close.
DH and I were talking about this and our take - he's a Kennedy and he's used to his name getting him whatever he wants, whenever he wants. So he just can't fathom why, of COURSE,he should be able to take his child out of the hospital!! Because he's a KENNEDY. And even now, months later, he still just can't see why he's wrong.
It's disgusting that he's actually trying to use his father's assasination in this at all.

Be fair, 1968 was 17 years before I existed.

Neither gay marriage nor adoption by gay couples was legal in 68 so I'm not sure how one would read the first sentence in this article and still think this Douglas douche was JFK's son.
Also, you were alive when JFK's only son went down in the Atlantic.
So . . .

Sure, that's what the Kremlin WANTS you to believe.
And Fuss, this is funny because my grandfather went on a 20 minute diatribe about how a good pilot wouldn't have crashed the plan and therefore the Russians (or the Germans) must have shot him down. It was kind of frightening at the time.
They do teach both in History classes so that's a bad excuse. You'd have been better off saying it was a typo.
Oh please. You said something that made you sound ignorant and your follow up comments suggest you enjoy being ill informed.
It's history, stupid and being born after the date it happened isn't a stellar excuse for being an ignoramus.

It was twenty two years before I existed. Yet, the part of my brain that retains historical facts is not full of holes.
