I feel like talking about fun, frivolous baby stuff. So, have you thought about names yet? Nursery decor? Talk to me about fun baby stuff!

Re: (moved) (@) Lyss, major & others

  • oooh good name, lyss! Our oldest is Sam. We debated naming him just Sam instead of Samuel, but then thought that wouldn't work for when he was in trouble. I've only had to start employing that recently, but those extra two syllables come in really handy. :)
  • I'm not part of the (@) club, but question for people with actual babies to bestow a name upon: Is Lydia an old woman name? Honestly. I love the name Lydia, it is my absolute favorite for a girl, and DH just says it sounds like an old woman.

    Poppycock. ?I love Lydia. ?Also, there is nothing wrong with a seemingly old lady name. ?They are coming back in style (Charlotte, Abigail, etc). ?If we ever have a daughter her name is going to be Evelyn.

    I also love the name Lydia.  I know a girl younger than me named Lydia and it works for her.  And ditto on "old lady" names coming back into style.

    Katie... I love the name Evelyn.  If I had my way, Sophie would have been Evelyn Ruth.  My hubby vetoed it.  I'm keeping it tucked away for baby #2, should we need it... it took us for.ev.er. to come up with a girl's name.

  • Aww I love moon/star sets. Major, are you planning to find out the sex?

    Lyss, I love that name! I'm doing pretty well - my labor was awful but my recovery has been good, relatively speaking. I was basically back to normal at 4 weeks (still have a few minor lingering issues in regards to resuming normal, uh activities, but nothing too bad). Thank you, sst, for being small!! Sleep deprivation is just a way of life nowadays, but sst is getting more and more fun every day as she starts to interact more.

    I finally understand now why some women go nuts and act so ridiculous when they have a kid - talking about nothing else, posting a million pictures, generally being obsessed with their baby. It really does feel like falling in love -- it's like your first teenage crush, where you think about nothing else but how wonderful and perfect this person is and all you want to do is talk about them. It feels like that to me, except much more profound. I can just stare at her for hours. So while I am trying to keep my head and not become one of Those Mothers, I think I finally understand why they act that way.

  • I love classic names, lyss & major. You've both made lovely choices.

    That's pretty much the sweetest thing ever. And FYI, you haven't talked about SST nearly enough on this board. I'd love to hear more about how she's doing!

  • I love the names!  Samuel Glenn is lovely.  And I like Evelyn a lot--it's my grandmother's name!  When I was 12 or 13 I used to tell my grandmothers I would name my first daughter Evelyn Rose (my other grandmother was Rosemary), but my husband won't agree.

    Lydia is very cute, but DH would say it's an old lady name, too.  I like Sylvia, which he also liked briefly, but now he vetoes it.  The only girl name he actually likes is Catherine.  I'm fine with Catherine, and then I want Catherine Claire (Catie Claire, how cute is that for a nickname?!), but he says that sounds way too Irish.  Our last name is Italian, it's not like it's O'Connor.   I swear to god, if my brother and SIL name their baby girl (due in February) Catherine, I will be really, really mad!

    Anyway, I'm not in the (@) group.  Sorry to threadjack!

  • Oh I forgot - one of my good friends is named Lydia and she's in her 20s. I always think of the silly sister in Pride and Prejudice. I think it's a lovely name. And I love Evelyn (Evie) and Claire too! Evelyn Rose is gorgeous. Oh girls' names are so much fun. I had a lot more trouble with boys' names - I guess it's because there's not so many of them, it's hard to find one that is nice and isn't the name of a relative/ex-boyfriend/kid you hated in middle school.

    OK, I'll gush about sst, only because you guys said it was ok ;) She's getting SO cute. She smiles now (mostly at Daddy) and loves to stare at the ceiling fan. LOVES it. I guess because it's black against a white ceiling, the contrast catches her eye, I don't know, but she's just enthralled. She also loves taking a bath, although HATES being taken out of the bath. When you take her out, she screams bloody murder. One time DH ran upstairs because he thought she had gotten scalded or something, but no, she just wanted to stay. If I put her back in, she's happy again, but unfortunately for her, she can't stay in the bathtub all day long. I've got to download some pics from the camera and then I'll post them.

    MW, I really like your name choices!  So cute.  I really like to see people using names that haven't been used in a while (like Maxine).

    TTT, I'm glad you're doing better.  You cracked me up with the bit about becoming one of "those mothers" because I totally ignore people when they say, "You'll feel different when you have a child.  It'll be all you can think about."  Apparently they're right?  Hee hee.

    Yeah pretty much :) I always hated when people said "Oh, when you have one of your own, you'll understand" (because okay, maybe you're right but what good does that do me now??) so I am trying to remember that and not say that to anyone. But I hate to admit it, it really is true.

  • Yay, SST pictures! Love the sleeping picture... so sweet!
  • ::Butting back in::

    We seriously better only have girls. ?We cannot agree on a boys name at all (mainly because a certain someone refuses to compromise and will settle for no other name than Alistair). ?Sigh.

    ?::leaving again::?

    Sophie used to do this, too.  She stopped screaming when coming out of the bath (most of the time) at about 4 months.  She still occasionally does it, though.  I love baby smiles!  Just wait till she starts laughing. You think you're in love now.  Ha!

    Sophie is still enthralled with ceiling fans.  At age 15 months, her older cousin is, too (but for a shorter time).  That is something that definitely comes in handy! (Hello, shower!)
