Dumb Question re: jumbo loans
So if I understand correctly, a jumbo loan would be necessary for a mortgage over $417,000. It looks like typically jumbo loans carry interest rates that area about a point higher. Here's where I get confused. If I'm purchasing a house for $550,000 and I put down $135,000 (leaving $415,000 to be financed), would I still need a jumbo loan? Would my loan amount still be $550,000 putting me over the threshold, or would my down payment mean that I could get a standard loan?
