Lauterbrunnen Switzerland
Thanks to the poster who suggested this beautiful place! DH and I looked it up, found a cute hotel, and booked it!
We hope to get some "hiking" done. We're not avid hikers, but it looks like there are easier trails if you take a tram up the mountain. Any recommendations of other activities? Is a day trip or half-day trip to Interlaken even worth it? We're in Lauterbrunnen for 3 nights.
Re: Lauterbrunnen Switzerland
I went to Lauterbrunnen with my mom and sister and we loved it. For a really easy "hike," you can just walk through the valley. There's so many pretty waterfalls. I'm trying to remember the longer hike we did. I think we took the cable car right from Lauterburren up a little ways and then hiked to Murren and Gimmerwald. The owner of our hotel had recommended it since there was snow higher up. It was pretty easy going.
We ended up not doing this because it was cloudy but you can take the cable car to the top of the Schilthorn where there's a restaurant where James Bond was filmed.

If you are not into adventure sports. Stay away from Interlaken. The actual village is really boring and full of watch shops which are marked up compared to the watches in the bigger cities. They even hire Japanese and Chinese speaking sales people to specifically sell to tourist in this tiny town. I don't remember walking by anything worth checking out there. I would of rather of went hiking. But this was the short rest stop for our trip to the Jungfraujoch. Which would be a way better half day trip in my opinion. The view from the top is stunning!
I'm glad you found a little place in Lauterbrunnen to stay! Enjoy your trip!

Great choice! You're going to love Lauterbrunnen! The weather was not great while we were there, so we didn't want to spend the $$ on the trip up the Jungfrau, but I wish we had the chance to go. It was VERY highly recommended, so if you get the chance, do it!
We did an awesome hike from Lauterbrunnen. We took the cable car up to Gimmelwald and walked around the (tiny) town for a little bit. It was kind of surreal. Then we took the cable car back down to Murren, and walked around there a little bit. Then, we hiked down to Lauterbrunnen. It wasn't hard since it was downhill, and it's so pretty. The trails are well marked, which is nice too.
Enjoy your trip!
We stayed in Lauterbrunnen for 4 days on our vacation in 2007. We took the cable car up from Lauterbrunnen and walked to Murren and Gimmelwald. That was a very easy hike. My parents were there too and they had no trouble. Make sure you see the Trummelbach falls. It's in the valley a short walk from Lauterbrunnen. The water has carved its way through the rocks. We also took the train up to the Jungfraujoch. That was an amazing trip! On the way back we stopped in Kleine Scheidegge and hiked down to the valley from there.
We were there by car so we drove to Grindelwald one time and did a hike there. Took a cable car up and then hiked down.
