My hair is naturally wavy/curly. (I'd say it's closest to type 2B on this chart:http://www.naturallycurly.com/pages/hairtypes/type2#type-2b) It's also pretty fine, but I have a lot of fine hair. Right now it's in long layers 3-4" past my shoulders and I like the length.
I tried the naturally curly co-wash/avoid silicones etc technique last summer and just felt like I had really gross looking hair for quite awhile. (I do use sulfate-free shampoo, always.)
Any suggestions for a lighter gel or mousse? Sometimes I feel like mine gets a little frizzy even with a mousse, but creams, etc are too heavy for my hair type. Last summer I just used a mousse + spray gel (Aussie, maybe? something very cheap from CVS or Target.) and I was not thrilled with it.
Price is not an issue. I just want my hair to look good when I wear it more naturally. (And my cosmetology-licensed friends will buy me stuff at the supply house at cost.) ![]()
Re: suggestions for wavy/curly hair styling?
I was just reading something on that website about how swavies/and wavy need to wash everyday, versus someone like me with 3b curls..the experts rec'd a very low sulfate shampoo, or sulfate free but use everyday.
Not sure aout product recs, but my DEVA stylist said the new DEVA spray gel is meant for your hair type. I also find the Angel gel from Deva to be super light..I can't use it, and arc angel has too much hold for me. GL!
Sounds like we have identical hair! Hair twins. I think I have used over a billion products. I also like mousse. I really like the Curly Sexy Hair Curl Accelerator Spray Mousse. (the big sexy hair line but in blue packaging)
My stylist always recommends TIGI curls Rock but way too sticky for me.
I have found gel-mousses to be the best.
Unfortunately my hair has too much frizz and the underneath is straight so I blow it out and then curl it. A pita but it's what looks best for me lately.

My hair is like that too. I've just started playing around w/ different products again. In the past, I felt like nothing ever worked and would either leave my hair looking greasy or crunchy.
Like pp, my stylist or others often recommend TIGI curls Rock, but I also found it way too sticky for me.
I recently tried the Moroccan Oil Intense Curl Creme and I'm pretty happy with it. It keeps my hair from getting frizzy. I just have to be careful not to apply too much or it does get a bit crunchy. But just the right amount (a small pump of it in my long hair) is great. That works with w/ a diffuser, but also letting it air dry.
ETA: I also use different shampoos/conditioner depending on whether I wear my hair straight or wavy. For straight, I use volumizing Pureology. When I wear it curly, the best combo I've found so far is Kiss My Face shampoo for dry hair, and Yes to Carrots conditioner. All are sulfate free.
That looks like my hair too... though mine may be a little thinner.
I used to use a volumizing spray and a curl enhancing cream, but even the cream makes my hair a little too crunchy (yet still frizzy...), so lately I just spray the roots with volumizer, dry with a diffuser, and scrunch it back with a very small amount of frizz-ease. Gives it a sort of purposeful messy look (rather than crunchy and frizzy). If I want it smooth I use a gel-cream mousse and brush it as I dry.
ETA the frizz ease I use is the flawless finishing creme (I've also used regular lotion in a pinch, and it worked pretty well against frizz, as long as the lotion wasn't greasy)
I've been using Garnier Fructis Style Wonder Waves Wave-Enhancing Spray. It's cheap and smells good. If I'm not careful about spraying evenly, it can get a bit crunchy. It doesn't really do that great of a job reducing frizz but it does a good job (at least for the price) for helping to hold the wave.
I've got curly/wavy hair, and while I have a lot of it, it is rather fine. I don't like when its crunchy, but I don't like when its frizzy or stringy, so finding the right products is tough, and then knowing how much of each product to use is even tougher, haha.
Lately, I've been using John Frieda Frizz Ease curl reviver styling mousse:

And Kinky Curly spiral spritz, which just helps to define the curl a bit, without weighing hair down since it is for fine hair:

To add just a teensy bit of hold and more frizz control, I use Bed Head Control Freak Serum...and a seriously tiny amount, just on the kinkiest areas of my hair that are the most frizzy, and usually mixed with the spiral spritz so it doesn't get too crunchy or heavy.

In order to get a little more texture and volume, I'll spritz a little curl spray, mostly on the ends to get more hold. I like Frederick Fekkai's curl spray and his beachy spray (smells so good!)

I apply all of these things after towel drying my hair with a microfiber towel, and bunching all my hair up into a cheapie shower cap while I do my makeup (this method works much better for me than plopping).
Once my makeup is done, I'll do a final spritz with a Redken spray (which I don't think they make anymore, boo) for added shine and definition, and then I diffuse it to almost dry.
I've also been looking into DEVA products as well and picked up small sizes of these to try the other day:

ETA: I'm probably a 2C on that chart, with some 3A sections, haha.

my hair is 2A/2B on that chart, fine but a lot of it, with a very frizzy underlayer. what I've found works best for me is this product:
I use 3 pumps in my long hair (just hits my boobs, between my shoulders and my bra strap) and smooth it through, then scrunch it in. it initially dries a little bit crunchy, but when my hair is about 90-100% dry, I do a final scrunch to get rid of the crunchiness. it's been working great for me, even though it's a product that is technically for adding body to fine hair prior to blow-drying (works for that too). it doesn't add much moisture, so if I feel like I need a bit more moisture on my ends, I spray some It's A 10 leave-in spray.
