Should I do a 5k? WWYD

I just finished my first 10k race, and have never done a 5k before. My town has limited races this summer, but there are a few that give the option for 10k or 5k. I was automatically thinking I'd do the 10k ones since I can already do that, but I know that 5k races are completely different.

Should I try at least one 5k? Is there any benefit to it, or do you enjoy it more?

Or should I just stick to trying to beat my 10k time?

Re: Should I do a 5k? WWYD

  • Both! Do a 5K (it's an automatic PR since it'll be your first one), and also do another 10K to try and beat your previous time. No reason you can't race both distances from time to time.

  • Sure you should, doing a 5k is totally different than a 10k, plus like pp said, it's an instant PR.  It's good to do all kinds of distances.
