DH has an interview there this Friday. I am super freaking excited
at the possibility of moving back to our college town. Since we lived
there as broke college students, please share your recs re neighborhoods
to live in. I want to start looking just in case DH gets an offer
since we'll be moving quickly. Eeeeek!
DH will be working downtown and we want to rent for a year before we buy.
Re: XP: Atlanta folks
My best friend from college lives in Brookhaven - maybe 5 minutes from Marta? She likes it - close to Buckhead, public transit, and grocery stores etc. she works at CNN and her H works at Atlantic Station and neither has a horrific commute barring something extraordinary.
She has said that sometimes she wishes they either lived more downtown or out in the big suburbs - she feels a little too in between, I guess? But overall she's pretty happy there.
We can walk to the Brookhaven Marta from our house. I am surprised she feels that way, we love this area and definitely feel like we live more in the city than the suburbs.
Haha you must be super close to her!
i like her neighborhood a lot so I am also surprised she feels this way. It's kind of my ideal - in between city and 'burbs. To be honest I think her problem is when they go out, they go to midtown or the Highlands and cab it, so she is sick of paying high can fares, and figures if they lived in the 'burbs she could completely avoid it bc it would be too high, haha. But she is pregnant now so that has probably changed. But I think she likes where they actually live - the street, the house, etc - and I think when they stop hitting up bars every weekend (it's her H's best friend who is trying to find a girlfriend lol) her opinion will change.
Choco you might have known her - she went to the B school.
Ah yes, we don't ever go out to bars
And there are some in Brookhaven now that are really good, so if we did we would just go to those. This is an amazing area for families, so that should help!
This is good to know, thanks everyone!
mrsbecky, what year did she graduate? I knew a lot of the b school folks but I was a poli sci/history major.
The only contribution I have is my dad and stepmom live in the Vinings. Seems nice to me. Their community is gated.
If I ever moved there I would aim for Grant Park but honestly, I know no more about it other than I like the housing stock.
Ah she was 04 like me. I don't know why I assumed you were in the b school. I was poli sci, and obsessed with Merle Black ;-)
for renting, we had a great experience at Post Lindbergh. DH took Marta downtown, there are 2 parks to walk to (Garden Hills and Ptree Hills), And it has 2 pools, workout room, tennis courts, urban garden, etc... If it's nice you could walk to Publix. Target/Home Depot and several restaurants are walkable.
We actually lived there 2x, with a stint out in Vinings to be walkable to my job. We're really anti-commute.

Lol. I graduated '03 but that's b/c I finished a year early. We must have had some of the classes together, esp 101. I took that fall '00 and all we did was talk about the FL chads. Heh. How awful is it that I can't remember many of the professors' names?
Thanks again for the info all. Domer, we are also very anti commute. I remember using Linbergh station a lot in college and can somewhat remember the area.
I think it's a lot less shady now w/o the famous strip club! LOL
