Marathon training glitch

I'm running a full on May 6th. It's technically my second full, but my first was over 6 years ago so I'm still very much a beginner. I was supposed to do 20 on Sunday but I psyched myself out with the heat, was running low on water, and stopped at 14. A couple people on here yesterday suggested that I NOT try to do 20 next Sunday because it will only be 2 weeks out. I was thinking of doing 20 either tues or wed instead. I'm worried now that going into the run with only having run 18 as my longest will also psych me out so I'd really like to squeeze in a full 20 before the race.

Do you think a long weekday run will be ok and taper as usual from there? What else would you suggest?  Thanks so much!!

Re: Marathon training glitch

  • I think a mid week long run, plus a 2.5w taper would be fine. I've had similar situations b/c of DH's schedule. When he works weekends it is easier for me to get in a longer week day run. Try not to over think it. You'll do great!

  • Yep, I would go with the 20 mile mid week run and taper from there. Mentally,I need to at least get to 20. Good luck! :)

  • I think that'd be fine!

Are you running the one in Long Branch?

  • I'd do it as soon as you feel comfortable while still giving yourself enough taper time.

No way would I go into the race where you are now.  That seems like it would be brutal.

    Good luck!

    Yup!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I'm going to try again tomorrow.

  • I'm running the half in Long Branch that day!  Fingers crossed for good weather and no 20mph head winds. ;) Good luck!!

My home office. Joeyzlovieg's hubby made it for me. I love it!
  • I think I would be beyond exhausted if I ran 14 and then 20 just two or three days later.  I'd do the 20 Friday.
