Just curious whether there are opinions out there about running, and whether one runs an entire race. I began c25K in February, and will do my first 5K May 6. I started training on the treadmill, and while I'm faster outdoors, I definitely cannot run a full 3.1miles continuously.I've also thought about trying the Galloway method with 2min run/1min walk intervals; I've heard it can actually improve your overall time. Should I use Galloway just for training; is it frowned upon to go into a 5K race planning to walk parts of it; or is it typical for new runners to walk parts of a race? Not sure why I'm worried about what others think of me about how I run the race, but I don't want to break any ettiquite (sp?) rules or act disrespectful in any way, and I feel like I'm just starting to learn about 'rules' in running. So, does running a full race really matter?

Re: 5K: Running vs. run/walk
I do a run/walk and I have found as long as you pay attention around you, move towards the right before you stop to walk, etc. most people are not going to care if you run the whole thing or not as long as your not stopping right in front of them and tripping them up.
Also a lot of 5K etc. are more walker friendly so walkers tend to be placed in corals in the back so they don't interfere with those who are going to run faster then them.

I have done plently of 5ks and for most I do end up walking some of it. I start knowing knowing I will have to walk some.
Its not a big deal to walk parts of a 5k some people do a 5k to just walk it. If you end up walking don't worry about it.
I wouldn't worry about it.
I do quite a few 5ks and just recently started running them. I walked for the longest time.
The ones in my area are pretty low key/charity events/just for fun etc. It's very much a bring a friend, bring your stroller too type events. They just stick the more serious runners in front and have everyone else line up behind them.
There are couple more serious ones, but I just avoid those. I run for me and run/walk for the social outing/charitable donation more than anything.
