Day 14 of spotting/bleeding

OMG. I cried from frustration this weekend.

The bc is making me nauseated and I almost threw up in the grocery store on Saturday.  I took the pepto tablets in the aisle.  Then slowly sipped broth for the rest of the day.

The last two days have been better, with both bleeding and nausea.  But it comes in waves.  Hardly a spot of blood on tp, and in 3 hours it'll progress and I'll need a tampon.  I called my doc on Friday but they closed early (WTF) so I left a message and will call back today for an appointment.

I think it's close to being done (this is around the time my period would have stopped naturally, before the plan b and bc) but I want to be sure I'm not trying to expel an ovary or something.

Look with your special eyes.

Re: Day 14 of spotting/bleeding

  • I felt like this on Lo-Loestrin (minus the spotting).  It felt like I was hung over every damn day.

  • Welp, you could try six weeks of post partum spotting/bleeding.

But forrealsies, my midwife told me to give BC a couple cycles before deciding it wasn't working for me because the side effects often decrease once your body regulates to it.

    Yep. 3-6 months.

  • If you do end up seeing your doctor, I would make sure to mention that you took Plan B and at what time frame in relation to when you started the BCP just so they know. I'm pretty sure thats at least partly the reason for the length of this. Hope it ends soon!

    This.

    *uterus shrinks even more* Eek.

Yep, I know it sucks right now, but it will level off in a month or two.

Nausea is my worst enemy.  I can handle the runs, sinus infections, strep throat, coughing, flu, mucus a-flying...but wave the possibility of vomit in front of me, and I curl up into the fetal position.

  • Call me crazy, but I don't think it's worth feeling like crap and not even wanting sex because of it for three months just to figure out whether or not I like a pill.

  • Yes, there's no way I'd go through 3 or more months of feeling like shiit to know if a pill is going to work for me.

Unless it's death otherwise, and even then I'd have to reconsider.

I hope you feel better, keep us updated.

I know how you're feeling, I went through this about a month ago. It got so bad that I broke down in tears at work with the stress of it.

  • Meh, it just depends on your priorities. It takes 3 months for your body to adapt. For me, it has generally been worth it.

  • I take activella and the breakthrough bleeding drives me nuts.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Exactly especially with expected side effects like spotting and bleeding. It's three months for how long of not wanting a baby? But I'm not in love with trying five different kinds of birth control simply because I didn't have enough patience to wait it out and see.

  • You know, most of these issues are likely to be due to the Plan B or the combo of the Plan B and the BC and not the BC alone. See what next month is like. If it's still bothering you, call your doc.

  • Hmmm, WELL, here are some other possibilities besides the birth control, before you go off it!

    - You took Plan B this cycle, right? I thought there were some other side-effects from that, so that's a (however moot) possibility!

    - It could be because you said you deviated from your diet to have a drinky drink this weekend.. you told me in another post you're on a diet that puts you in a state of ketosis so I'm assuming you're low-carbing it. If you're low-carbing it (and doubly so if you're low carbing, low cal'ing) even one drink can make you go kind of wonky. I had one glass of wine last week and it took me a few days to really "recover" even though it didn't really knock me out of ketosis. My body was just not used to or prepared to handling the alcohol sugar.

    - Finally, there is a crud/flu that seems to have swept across the country. I've got friends in like every state that seem to have come down with variations of the crud (myself included) but tummy troubles and headaches were part and parcel of the symptoms, so maybe you got a belly flu?

In any case, I would probably wait it out at least one more cycle to see if it's cycle related or just really bad timing what with all the other stuff. Obviously it's your body but it's probably also a little less stressful on your body to give it a little longer than to go off and immediately start trying something else.

  • Don't worry... I'm not going to stop the bc after this one month.  I have a script for 6 months and plan on using it for at least that long.  Even if I still spot next month.

My screwed up timeline from the last cycle, to get an idea of what I've dealt with: Last month I had my period for 6 days per usual (March 18-23), took plan B on the 28th (last day possible to take it for it to be effective), got my period/spotting again on April 3 and have had bleeding ever since. I just want a break from the damn cramps and bleeding and making sex messy and etc. Nausea is getting better, so I doubt that will be an issue in a week or so.

I'm pretty positive the long bleeding is due to plan B and then taking the bc a week before my actual, on-time period was due to start.  So, plan B, early period, birth control, and actual period time are all colliding with each other.

  • One of my first bc pills made me nauseated when i was taking it in the morning so the next pill cycle I took it right before bed and it made the world of difference because I didnt feel like i was 2.5 seconds from throwing up in the hours after taking my pill. You might try switching it to the nighttime to see if that helps or if you are taking it on a empty stomach that could also be a problem.
