They completed the marathon in 4:01:27! Considering the heat and what I have heard first hand from spectators, that is a great finish time. It is my dad's slowest marathon but still, they played it smart and finished without injury. So proud of my dad and Mike!!!
If it wasn't for my dad, I would have never started running.
two teary eyed running friends (my dad is on the right).

Hooray for your dad (and mike!)
were you able to defer?
So cool for them! And slow schmo, it's BOSTON. They did the hard work of qualifying, what's the rush once you're there?
Glad they were both ok in the heat.

Daisy - Do you know about how many people ended up deferring? I was wondering how that number of people would factor into the slots for next year.
Congrats to them!
AND.....this is great news for you! You were able to defer to next year. Congratulations!
Not a clue! I know we should be receiving an email after today's event is over telling us how to proceed with the deferment. I am sure the BAA will announce the number that deferred.

I read an article before that said that BAA stated about 15% of those registered deferred to next year. I want to say that number was around 4500 or so but I could be wrong...I'll see if I can find the article.
Awesome!!! I had a friend that needed to make special arrangements for someone to be there to claim her bib and defer for next year. I am so happy for you!!!!!! See all things work out for a reason
Here is what I foudn regarding the number of runners who deferred.

The paper I read said only a couple hundred ended up deferring to next year. 14% didn't pick them up. You had to pick up your bib but not start in order to defer. Even with the heat, 96% finished. Over 2000 ended up some sort of medical attention and ~115 had to be taken for the course by an ambulance.
