Those who played softball...

Please tell me I didn't make a fool of myself signing up to play on a co-ed team!  I have not played any sports for over 10 years now and wanted to put myself out there to meet more people.

It doesn't help that my friend who convinced me to join is pretty good and competitive.

Is it relative easy to play?  Any exercises I can practice at home to improve myself?

Re: Those who played softball...

  • I would go to a batting cage and play catch a bit to get into the "swing" of things.

Depending on the league it can be pretty laid back or competitive. I have had good experiences. Even the really competitive team I was on was very nice and supportive.

I am a good athlete and can hold my own, but a couple of the other girls were first timers and they enjoyed it despite not having a softball background.

Have fun! I think you will like it :)

  • Fun! I played growing up and last summer I picked up a glove for the first time in almost 15 years!

Hopefully your team/league isn't that competitive, but it helps to be familiar with the rules somewhat. If you don't know the basics, start watching baseball on TV...it's pretty much the same.

I'd find a friend to go to the batting cages with to practice hitting (most "family fun centers" have them) and go buy a cheap glove/ball to play catch with.

Don't take it too seriously and just have fun with it!

Thanks!, I will definetly hit the batting cage.  I am very familiar with the rules of the game since my dad was both a baseball and softball coach and it was something that was always discussed at the dinner table everyday.  I didn't really play much with my siblings because I was into other sports at the time.

  • COOL!

I would also recommend practicing your catching. Do you have a friend you can throw a ball to back and forth?

I think so, hopefully she is not too busy.
