For the second time in a year, our bathroom sink has gotten clogged, and the verdict for both times is that a rat (or other animal of some kind?) has gotten stuck trying to climb up the drainage/sewer pipe. I am SO GROSSED OUT by this. Last year, I called my city's sewer department to ask about this; they said they would lay extra traps. But now it has happened again. The plumbers are still here working away, and I am SO GROSSED OUT.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there ever a solution? I put in another call to my city's sewer department, but I am wondering if this will just keep happening.
Meanwhile, I am out another $200 for the plumber to come by ![]()
Re: Totally gross plumbing/animal issue inside
Eeeeewwwww!!!!
Ive never heard of that but now I'm going to freak out if our pipes clog lol.
I may have just dry heaved at my desk.
Is there anything the plumbers can do to prevent them from getting up in your pipes? I'd call the city again and complain again. Even if it costs more money this time for the plumbers, you won't be out the $200 again from a (ew) stuck rodent.

The plumbers said not much could be done. They suggested we put bleach down both our sink and bath tub drains periodically, that maybe the smell of bleach could be a deterrant.
I just cleaned the bathroom but still don't feel it is sanitized enough. I am grossed out by the thought of it. And I have all the windows open to get the awful smell out.
UGH!
I'm in the DC metro area, and my house was built in the 1930s.
Seriously, me too. Disgusting.
I heard a story about a rat in a toilet on This American Life (story here: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/406/true-urban-legends). After that, I always kept the toilet seat down and always only lifted the lit a tiny little bit to check for random rodent arms/legs/tails after that. Now I'm septic; so, it's not an issue. I feel for you!
It is most definitely not roots from a tree--this is so gross, but they pulled out parts of the rat, so the plumbers could identify the issue exactly. GROSS!
