Stretches for back pains?

I have a herniated disc in my lower lumbar area.  Today during bootcamp I was finishing up my last exercise which was 100 kettlebell swings and I felt my form going.  Before I could correct it I felt a stabbing pain in the back.  I've been really good about form but this was the end of my workout and I think I was exhausted.

I can't even bend over without it hurting.  ANY tips or good stretches I can do?  I don't want to miss bootcamp and tomorrow we focus on upper body.  Last time I threw my back out it helped to workout (SLOW jog).

Re: Stretches for back pains?

  • When I herniated a lumbar disc and went to PT they gave me a few to do, I will try to explain them.

lay on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, while tightening your core rock your knees from side to side.  Go as far as you can and do it slowly so you are actually using your muscles.

I did a lot of hamstring stretches because it was determined that my hammies were too tight and causing my back to overwork itself.

Using a resistance band lay flat on your back one leg straight out and the other straight up, put the resistance band around your foot and really stretch your hamstring, these really helped me

Lay on your back both knees bent with feet flat again, take one leg and cross your ankle over the opposite legs knee, pull that knee toward your chest

there was a stretch that was a lot like the yoga child's pose and the cobra and the cat -cow pose

hope this helps, I know it helped me a lot
