Pain on the top of my foot

I don't know what I did to it.  It started a day or two after I did the first 30 minute run for C25k, which also was also the same day that my dog used my foot as a landing pad.  It hurts about an inch right below my 2nd and 3rd toe.  I can't tell if it is it just bruised internally, the muscle is just tensed up, or if it is the bone.  It always hurts whether I'm walking or sitting.  I think I do need to buy new running shoes, so it might possibly be the cause.

Does this sound like a stress fracture to you?  If it was, wouldn't it have started hurting right after I was done running, not days later?

Re: Pain on the top of my foot

  • I am not a doctor but I would go get fitted for running shoes.  Mine did that when I tied them too tight too.   But to be sure I would head to the doc.
  • That's exactly what my stress fracture felt like.   Hopefully it's something else, but i'd get it checked out by a doctor.
  • The pain goes away when I put my running shoes on. Do you think this means that it is probably my shoes? I just really want to avoid getting drays if I can.

I had the same thing... No pain with shoes on, pain without. For months. Turns out it had been broken the whole time! I wasn't running at the time, but that's my story... Go get it xrayed!

  • That is not what I want to hear! What would be the best type of doctor to go to? Podiatrist, GP, orthopedist?
  • I went to a sports medicine doc, but I think an ortopedist would work too.
  • It might also be a neuroma. I have one about an inch above my middle few toes. I get a shot there about once a year when it flares up. A podiatrist can tell you for sure.
