We are going to meet with the bank on Wednesday to see if we can get preapproved for a loan. Is there anything specific I should ask ? Any suggestions or input would be great thank you!!!!
Re: Meeting with bank
When you get preapproved, just make sure that what they come up with for a number actually coincides with what your budget is. Many people get approved for way more than they can really handle paying. Only you know what your spending habbits are and what you can afford for a monthly payment. Stick to it, and home ownership will be a lot easier.
I think the questions are going to depend on what types of loans you are looking at. The loan officer will probably explain the details, downpayment requirements, closing cost estimates etc.
If I were you, I'd go in already knowing the max you'd be willing to pay (downpayment + mortgage) so that you're not swayed into spending more if the bank is willing to lend you more. There are plenty of on-line calculators you can use, then add in extra expenses you assume you'll take on in the next few years (day care, car loan, etc.). Don't let the bank convince you to spend more than you're truly comfortable with.
Also ask the bank if they can quickly provide updated letters if your first one expires or if you decide to put in an offer on a cheaper home and don't want to signal to the sellers that you can more than afford asking price if you're trying to bid down.
GL!
