I did body combat saturday and sunday did a12 mile run with a bridge every.***.mile. Today is my weightlifting day and I'm wondering how awful squats will be.

Re: My calves would like to succeed

  • Succeed or secede? Like, they want to succeed and do well? Or secede and leave your body?

  • L, secede and leave my body. I posted from my phone and didn't really pay attention obviously.

  • I'm not meaning to sound dumb, snarky, or anything but I'm truly wondering how bridges make the run more difficult.  I'm not seeing how running over one would impact my workout.  Maybe bridges are different where I live?

My calves feel the same way most days.  They seem to get tighter and more sore than any other muscle group in my body.  Hope yours feel better soon!

  • Because I live at sea level where everything is flat. So a bridge = incline. you do get that incline is harder to run than flat, right?

I figured. I wasn't being snarky, it's just the English teacher in me.

Is there anything you can do to prepare for running these bridges? I live in an area with a decent amount of rolling hills, so before I started running outside I would practice on the treadmill by playing with the incline - this seemed to make it a bit easier to deal with.

Andplusalso, is running over a bridge terrifying? I hate driving over them, I couldn't imagine running over them.

  • Were you able to get in a good work out? I'm still sore from Sunday's race, but think I'm still going to try and do some strength training today.

On a side note, I run in a hilly area and my quads and calves get more beat up from a flat long run. I guess it's all what you are used to! I think I need better technique too. I don't know what the hell my body is doing out there.

  • The inclines on bridges can be deceptive. Some are terrible, even for me, and I live in upstate NY where I can't run more than .10 of a mile without a hill.

  • The bridges were on a trail that runs through the county. So most of the bridges were over intersections. Bit bridges on general don't bother me unless they are very tall. I did get a good workout, I paid a lot of attention to form so I worked the correct muscles. I learned the meaning of recovery run this morning though. At the start I was practically and my legs felt so much better by the end.

Yes, I get that inclines are harder.  I live in a hilly area and can't avoid them.  However, where I live, most bridges are flat so there is no direct correlation that bridge = hill.  Nor does sea level imply flat.  The lowest parts or Seattle are at sea level, but it is anything but flat.  I know vey little about Florida terrian.
