Re: **GOZF**
Oh my gosh. It's gorgeous. Like, seriously gorgeous and huge and amazing.
Ok. The kitchen and the bathroom are small and a little outdated, but still definitely functional and nice enough. The living space is ridiculous. Giant windows, very high ceilings, great hardwood floors. Walk-in closet, in addition to other ample closet space. The bedroom's a good size, and the living and dining areas are enormous. Frankly, one could easily make the "dining" space both living and dining room and have the other room as a bedroom/office/art studio/whatever. And the attic is huge and could easily be living space. S can stand in it without an issue, and he's 6'3".
His concern, though, is the neighbors below us. Not that he's concerned with them, per se, but he worries about being on the second floor with his schedule. He works from 6 p.m. - 4 a.m., and he doesn't want to create tension by coming home and doing his thing -- making dinner, watching a movie, etc. He wouldnt blast music at that hour, obviously, but he doesn't want to feel like he has to tiptoe in his own place.
So, we're thinking about it. I'm going to try to convince him to make the attic his little refuge, where he can stomp about and listen to music and watch movies -- because I sleep like the dead, and he won't be disturbing me.
Man. I really love this apartment....
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Sounds amazing! I hear his concern though. I used to live on a first floor apartment and the woman who lived above me worked at a hospital. She would come home at 3 am and drop her backpack on the floor---which sounded like a bomb going off in my bedroom!
Do you know where the 1st floor bedroom is in relation to the upstairs room? I think as long as he is cognizant of his actions, he should be fine. And the attic would be a great place for him to have some solitude.

Yes, their bedroom is under the dining area, off of the kitchen -- so the other living space and attic are probably fair game at night.
My friend who lives there currently says that they're up late and lot and come in and out at strange times, but never have complaints. They just make sure to take off their shoes and try not to slam things around.
I love it so much. I'd sign up right away, but I do understand his reservations. I also have to remember that it's the first place we've seen, and that if it's a no, it's not the end of the world.
S is the kind of person who has to come to things on his own. There is no influencing him, really. It makes him feel backed into a corner. So, I'm not going to push. I'm going to give him a few days to think it over before I mention anything again, and then float the attic suggestion.
