Has anyone painted their laminate countertops?

I'm thinking about doing this in our kitchen.  What brand did you use?  Did you like it?  Pics?  We're severly upside down on our TH so I don't want to put a lot of money in it, but am tired of looking at these eyesores.  Along with the kitchen cabinets, bathrooms, fugly oak trim everywhere.........hmmm.......I think I may be opening a can of worms.

TIA

Re: Has anyone painted their laminate countertops?

  • I painted our countertops.  When we moved in they were already painted forest green.  And burgandy before that.  And mint green before that.  yikes.

I don't know what brand of paint I used but it was a melamine paint.  It did not hold up that well.  Probably because it had been painted so many times it started peeling and flaking behind the sink.

We have since installed new countertops but here's pics.

before with green countertop and matching plastic cabinet knobs

After with painted countertops and new cabinet knobs....and new stove.... and that floor is gone now too, just sayin'
