Re: f/u looking old photo

  • You are pretty and your cheek bones are perfect. My opinion is that you wear too much makeup and this is what ages your look.  You should go for a fresh faced makeup look.  Make an appointment at a Bobbi brown makeup counter and tell the make up artist you're going for a younger look where less is more.  In the pic, your eye makeup is strong and your blush is dark and you need to put your blush in the apples of your cheeks area.  Also blend well all over your face for everything except for your lips.

The hair style needs a little freshening up too.  Leave it down and maybe go for a wispy bang or a longer side swept bang?

The good news is that the makeup and hair are easy fixes.  You do not look old.  You just need a little update.

  • You're really pretty!  I love your strong brows - I wish my wimpy ones were more like that.  I've always pictured you as a blonde for some reason in my mind.

Since the picture isn't very good quality, there are a couple things that I can't quite tell on that might be causing a problem:

    - do your bangs look anything like this IRL?

    - does your blush application look like this IRL?

    - I can't tell what eyeshadow colors you're wearing, but certain shades of terracotta and browns can look outdated as well.

I really think you're just misunderstanding the compliment to your mom because I don't think you look older than my age.   I dress like a nun oftentimes compared to what this board considers trendy (lots of regular (not Loft) Ann Taylor in my work and casual wardrobe), so so long as your attire is updated and cuts are current, I don't think there's anything inherent about dressing conservatively that makes you look old.

  • How old are you?

Your makeup seems really heavy, like Kardashian-esque, and honestly, you would look better without so much makeup, in my opinion.  You are VERY pretty and that picture looks like you are done up for a magazine cover, not for an everyday look, if that makes sense?

My dad is from the middle east, and yes, women LOVE eye makeup there. If that's where you are now and see those women every day, your makeup fits right in with that culture. (Any of us would want to blend in with a host country and culture! Completely natural.)Truthfully, I thought to myself that there was some middle eastern styling to your appearance when I saw your photo (you remind me of young photos of my dad's sister) but it's too obscure a reference to make to people who aren't familiar.

Try a little more current bang and blush style now or when you come back stateside and you should be fine :). You do not look 50!

  • You are really pretty!

I would go much lighter on the blush and wear it more on the apples of your cheeks.  I would also maybe try a lighter pink color.  You have strong features (in a good way - a nice, defined jaw line and delicate but angular nose), so I feel like the bangs are a bit harsh and age you a bit.  I think side swept bangs would look really nice on you!  Also, maybe some layers in your hair.

I don't think you look old.  However, with the way you look in the picture, you are one of those people who it is really, really difficult to guess your age.  If you told me you were 27, I'd believe it, but you could also tell me an age quite a bit older than you really are, and I'd believe that, too (and just think you were aging well!)

  • Agree with pp... You definitely don't look old. (And, yes, very pretty! Those brows are killer.)

I understand what you mean about makeup in your environment.

I am always amazed about what a difference makeup can make. I think even a different blush could completely change your look.

  • Jumping in....I think the hair would make the biggest difference. Maybe wear it down and add some layers and like others have said definitely a sideswept bang. I think a light pink or peach lipstick would help a lot, and lighter blush higher up on the cheekbones. As Tyra would say, great bone structure though Big Smile
  • Your eyebrows are a pretty shape but seem a bit severe and dark with your hair color.  If you use a powder or pencil, I would recommend a lighter shade.
  • I would say a lighter hand with the blush and a paler lip.  I think the rule is if you go heavier on the eyes you go lighter on the lips and heavier lips=lighter eyes.

You don't look old by any means, but your make-up looks dated.  You have really nice features, so if you make either your eyes OR your lips stand out, it will draw people's attention to that feature instead of just seeing make-up.

I agree with this, and your eyes IMO look great, you have great brows and eyes, so if you want this to be your focus, keep it! But I would tone down the blush, more pinky, less bronzey, and do a lighter more natural looking lip color. I think this would help a lot. You have a beautiful face, very nice bone structure and I don't think you look old, but the heavy makeup is dated.

I also agree with PP's on your bangs, I would soften up that look, something like Catherine Zeta Jones had at one time:

  • You might want to think about who's giving you these comments too.  They might have a different view of family relationships.

Someone in the original thread said that people ask her if her son is her grandson, but she is only 32.  Well, if the person saying this comes from a community where underage mothers are common, it would be totally possible to have a 2 year old grandson at 32.  When I waited tables in a low income neighborhood the busboys were always shocked that I didn't have any kids at 20. (Now - at 34- I sometimes have students that ask how old my kids are, or how many, instead of whether or not I have kids - I don't have any)

So it might not have anything to do with you.

Maybe the person comes from a family where the siblings are spread out.  (I know people who have brothers and sisters who are 20 years older.)  Maybe he/she was trying to compliment your mother on her youthful look/style.

This 100000%. If that is your natural brow color, you could consider lightening them a bit to coordinate better with your hair color.

I agree about the blush being too dark/orangey. Definitely shoot for a more peach/pink color, and work on blending a bit better. If you still want a bronzed look, you can use a bronzer, blended well (lightly), and then use a pink blush on the apples of your cheeks as recommended.

It looks like you have great healthy hair, so I would focus most on growing out those bangs and updating them a bit (sideswept as recommended would look great), and adding some layers to provide some movement.

  • I'm with everyone else. Grow out the bangs a bit, lighten the brows, and go easy on the blush, and you're set! :)
