Road trip to Florida-suggest places along the way!

We will be traveling from Houston to Destin this summer. We will stop in NOLA and spend the night since we love that city. We would like to stop maybe for lunch or for a few hours in MS and AL.

Does anyone have suggestions to somewhere that really stands out in your mind-good restaurants, etc.

  • Lambert's Cafe in Foley, AL.  It's about 30 min off I-10 near Gulf Shores.  The food is good and the atmosphere is fun.  From there, you can just follow 98 on to Destin and take the scenic route.

You can also stop and check out the U.S.S Alabama in Mobile, AL or the aviation museum in Pensacola, FL.

  • I also like Mobile a lot. If you're only looking to spend a few hours, Fort Conde is neat and not too big, and you could do lunch in downtown, maybe get some oysters at Wintzell's or drink a mint julep in the fancy bar at the Battle House.

The U.S.S. Alabama and the Fine Arts Museum of the South are both really neat, but they'll take a little more time to see everything, so it just depends on whether you want to make a whole day of it or just stop a few hours.

It sounds like a great roadtrip! Have fun!
