BF's sister is getting married in June, and I am looking for a dress to wear (I take a long time to find dresses I like, so that is why I am starting to look now). I am short and a little curvier than I like to be (job last year was very stressful and I gained some weight). So I need something that isn't going to make me look stocky or pregnant (empire waists tend to do that). Things that come in petite sizes are also a plus, because they have the correct proportions.
I need to look cute and respectable since all of bf's overseas family will be flying in from England for the occasion and I have never met them.
Thanks!
K
Re: Dress me for a wedding
I really like White House Black Market's dresses for weddings and formal events. They are $$ full price but I usually pay 50% of that. They are classic and timeless. Also, if you have a Macys, check them out, they usually have a nice selection of cocktail dresses.
Do you know the venue or dress attire (black tie, beach, etc)? That would be helpful
I would try to find something that cinches you in at the waist, like a thick belt. Maybe wear a fascinator too since his family will be coming from England. I photographed a wedding once where the groom's family was English and his mom/sisters wore them... too cute!!!
Too funny you said that! The dress I posted below if from WHBM!! Love their stuff!
lol. Also, AK, the dress she posted is a "sheath" style dress (what WHBM calls it) and it really helps to hide tummy and make you look slim and not preggo. They have lots that style and I love them! :-)
It's not super dressy, but bf will be wearing a suit. He always wears a suit to weddings. It's at a very nice restaurant in the Malibu hills.
And you aren't going to share your 50% secret?
Then I think one of WHBMs dresses or similar type would work really well for this! I looked at their selection and am not too impressed with anything they have right now, but they get new products in almost weekly.
I'm a big fan of something like this:
I have this on my pinterest, but I think his family is too conservative to understand why that is cute and wedding-appropriate
Sure! You can always google for coupons. They usually have at least a 20% or 25% off coupon, and then I wait for the dress to go on sale too. So if the dress goes on sale and then you use a coupon on top of that. ALso, since they get products in so frequently, dresses usually go on sale ~3 weeks after they are released.
ETA: also, they do price adjustments within 14 days too. So if your dress goes on sale, you can get your money back.
