Advise Me RE: Buying a Furnace.

Also posted this on MM.

DH and I are under contract on a home. We had an inspection Friday. The inspector discovered significant rust and a crack in the home's furnace and the entire thing needs to be replaced. Our plan is to work with the sellers to come up with a machine to replace it with. We are negoitating all this right now.

The current machine is original to the home (1993). It is a Carrier and is a high efficiency model rated at 90%. The home is 3,200 square feet and it's in the Minneapolis area so it gets major cold temps there.

Any experience doing this? What cost range is this typically? What are some key points to consider when buying a new furnace?

FYI: The AC is new as of 2007. The sellers did not replace both machines at the same time. Are there any concerns for compatibility now between the two machines?

Re: Advise Me RE: Buying a Furnace.

  • I haven't bought a new furnace yet, but we will need to replace the current one and switch from oil to natural gas next winter.

GL! and I hope you get some answers and that it isn't too expensive!
