Bloggers: Selling Ad Space with an Ad Network?

I've been blogging for a couple months and am considering joining an ad network. I know the various networks have been debated here before (Foodbuzz, Blogher, and Foodie Blogroll), but, as a cookie blogger, I'm interested in working directly with advertisers and selling ad space (specifically ones that sell cookie decorating equipment). Do any of these ad networks allow this? I think I'm the most interested in Blogher (if I'm even accepted!), but their guidelines aren't clear...can you seek sponsors as along as their ads are below the fold? I have seen sites with sponsors and Foodbuzz ads, but I wasn't sure if that was a special arrangement. Thanks ladies!

  • With BH, you can run other ads below the fold. The problem is that a lot of ad companies want you to run their ads above the fold, so trying to find one that doesn't can be tough.

If the ad company you find is  not a direct competitor of BH, another option would be to  have them "fill" the ads when BH doesn't have an ad to run - so they would essentially be backup ads, for the times when BH does not have a paid ad running.

Many thanks! This is exactly what I wanted to know. All of the cookie blogs I know have direct ads below the fold, so hopefully those companies are aware of the restrictions. I know it could be an uphill battle with some though.
