Treadmill Recs please

I have a friend who has finally woken up and realized that he was living an unhealthy life.  He's dropped 30lbs already since January and is looking to keep losing more weight in a healthy fashion. YAY!

His success is all running based.  However, his roommate is moving out and with the move there goes the treadmill.  My friend is not a gym person and wants to buy his own treadmill, but he has no idea what to get. Since I'm his token runner friend he asked me, but I hate treadmills and have no idea what to recommend!

Any recommendations for a treadmill under $2k?  He's a taller guy and on the heavier side, so he's okay with having less bells and whistles in order to have a treadmill that is going to last.

TIA!

Re: Treadmill Recs please

  • I absolutely love my LiveStrong 10.0T. Since he's taller and heavier, I would recommend the 13.0T which has a longer deck (and is still under $2k).

My hubby and I have put nearly 500 miles on our treadmill since October and have yet to have any problems with it.

I posted a review of mine in my blog here.

  • We've been happy with our NordicTrack (C2200, they don't make that one anymore) for several years. It was about $800 new from Sears on sale.
  • LOVE our Nordic Track C900. It can be found for about $1000, and actually does have some great features plus it is powerful and sturdy. We chose it because its price compared to similar treadmills was amazing, and we chose it because of its specs - my hubby at the time was very obese and he is tall, so we needed something to accomodate that.

It inclines to 15%, speed to 12mph, has plug in for ipod/iphone, fan, pre-fixed workouts of various kinds, I think the belt is 6' (so it is big, which is unavoidable if you need something for somebody tall). I definitely recommend at least checking it out!

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I have a Livestrong, not sure which model, it was under 1k and I LOVE it. It folds for easy storage, but it's definitely still really sturdy.
