NSOR....Pants

A couple times on here I have heard women say that pleated pants are a fashion disaster.   I buy some flat front work pants.  When I tried them on I could already tell they were tighter around my thighs...I hate that but thought I would give it a try.   Wore them for 1st time today and getting out of my car they rip!!!   So now all day long when people are walking behind me they are going to notice a rip halfway up my ass!!!!  I have had to cut all my trips to vendo land and bathroom next to nothing so I dont have to leave my office....lol.  Not cool.

My question...why all the hate for pleated pants?

Re: NSOR....Pants

  • Pleated pants are the equivalent of mom jeans for me. Plus they are unflattering. They make your hips look bigger than they are. And they just scream 65 year-old man.

  • JM, for the love of all things holy, do NOT wear pleated pants. They scream 1980's

Now my co-worker just told me he could see a little bit of my boxers sticking out.  I just happen to be wearing some old ones that are now too big for me and are baggy....just keeps getting better and better.

Seriously?? Why didn't you go home and change?

PS-it sounds like you need a "relaxed" fit pant--which come in flat front.

  • Wait, you've been wearing pleated pants? Where the heck do you even buy pleated pants? Are you single? Do you wear pleated pants to ask women out? How old are you?

I'm very fascinated by this topic, if you can't tell.

And just because your ONE pair of non-pleated pants didn't fit right doesn't mean that pleated pants are magic. It means you bought pants that didn't fit. Try on more.

JM, this is your own fault. Buy some new boxers, jeez!

  • It sounds like you just have a pair of ill-fitting pants. I know a while back you were looking for fashion advice, did you ever go see a Nordstrom personal shopper? If you don't understand why pleated pants are unflattering and awful, then you really need the assistance of a professional.

Because I already took most of the morning off to run errands and did not want to use more time off just to drive all the way home and change.

  • I can't stop shaking my head at this thread.

LOL. Seriously, get thee to the mall (after you change, of course) and buy some relaxed fit, flat front pants!

  • Oh JM, you never fail to make me laugh!  Thank you for this post.

I'll reiterate what others have said.  Pleated pants are fugly.  Pleated pants aren't a magic solution.  You just need a more relaxed fit flat front pant.

Do you have daughters?  Are they old enough to help you shop?  If not, something like a personal shopper at Nordstrom would be helpful.  Oh and, you may need to try on several pairs of flat front pants to find a good fit.  Pants are a pain, but you can't settle or you'll be caught with your pants down (or ripped)!

As for the boxers, you may need some new ones as well.  Never wear a pair that you'd be afraid to be seen in if you were to end up in an emergency and be in the hospital.

  • Hmmmmm....I'm thinking maybe you ate too many donuts during your run and that's what caused the pants to split?  LOL

JM, JCrew has some nice relaxed fit flat front pants. Please go buy yourself some. I used to buy them for my XH and they fit him fine and he was a bigger (not fat) guy.

This!  My Ex wore pleated pants until he met me and I turned him on to J. Crew - relaxed flat front pants.  They fit him nicely and he was a bigger guy (not fat) just muscular in the leg area from playing hockey his entire life. AND they are pretty nicely priced!!

If your daughters like shopping at all, then have them help you.  Obviously you're not going to go to Aeropostale for dress pants!  Go into a good store and have them tell you if the pants look good.  I'm sure they'll be more than honest.

I had to throw that out there about the donuts!  I just saw you didn't do the run.  It's a shame, I was looking forward to a puke story.

Yes this. My STBXH has big muscular legs and I kinda forced him to throw out the pleated pants. I don't remember what brand but he did find flat front pants that fit very well. I think you just have to keep looking for a brand that will fit you better.

PLEASE don't go back to the pleats though!! They are horrible!!

  • Pleated pants + Jorts = single JM

Please dont tell me you have jorts too Ick!

  • Seriously JM, get new pants.  If you can't get out of a car, your clothes are too tight.  This is said by a woman who had a pencil skirt split while getting out of a cab.

I hear ya.  Now I am reduced to using my gym bad to hide my ass while I run to bathroom or fill up my water.

    You can stop laughing anytime.
