What shoes with my royal blue dress?

Hey ladies. I am graduating from college, in May, and I am having trouble deciding what shoes to wear with the dress I bought. I don't want to go with black because I think that might be too boring under my black graduation gown. Here is my dress:

I like this first shoe because I feel like it would really pop, but I wonder if it is too wild for the tailored dress (which by the way looks more tailored in person than on the model).

The next shoe is a very comfortable, basic, nude pump. Will a nude shoe look right under a black graduation gown? If so, will this one work, or is the heel too chunky for the dress?

Please let me know which shoe you guys like, or if you have other suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Re: What shoes with my royal blue dress?

  • what about mustard yellow?

  • I like/don't like both options, lol.

I like the idea of the first pair, but I like these better (in blue).

I think nude is a perfectly good option, but prefer these (I have them and they are super comfortable, not as 'grey' in person).

I like the idea of mustard yellow, but I am afraid it might be too bold for me. I am afraid to do a shoe that doesn't somehow tie into the colors of the dress, unless it is neutral. Thanks though!

I like the first show you mentioned, but I feel like they might look out of place under a black graduation gown.

I prefer the nude shoes you posted over those I posted. However, I tried the chunky heeled ones, and they are comfortable and easy to walk in.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but thanks for the input!

  • i would wear black shoes for the graduation ceremony, then change into the fun ones when you're actually somewhere where your shoes can be seen and won't scream "look at my shooooesssssss" under your gown.

Those are cute but I like her two choices. The 2nd would be good for work/very versitile.

  • honestly, everyone looks silly in black graduation gowns!  I would say most people just wear shoes that match their outfit - the gown isn't itself an 'outfit' IMO and you shouldn't worry so much about matching it.

I'm not worried about "matching" the gown, as long as it doesn't clash too horribly bad. I was more concerned about which shoe went better with the dress, and I have no fashion sense, haha.

Black would certainly make things easier, but I felt like my shoes would be my only chance for expression under that awful, drab gown. :) I see what you're saying though.

I considered the fact that the nude pumps would definitely get more wear, but then I thought, hey, I could buy some nude pumps anyway!
