Hiking Date-what to wear?

Thought I'd post here since you guys are outdoorsy.

So, I'm going on a date tonight...we're going hiking (nothing too crazy, it's pretty local, but full of foresty trails) and then maybe going to dinner. I imagine we'd hike for an hour so.

I'm stuck on what to wear. I normally wear yoga-type pants (Nike be-strong pants) or running capris when I hike, but I think those are a little too clingy to wear today and I'd feel weird wearing those to dinner (maybe if I was with a friend or something, but I want to look/feel "cute") and I also have these hiking pants. They're pretty cute on, but the only thing that annoys me is they are that "swooshy" type material, so they are "loud" when I walk (or at least to me). I figure I can pair it with a cute cotton/dri fit tee and I have a zip up black fleece to go over (it's a bit chilly here).

No matter what, I'll wear my hiking shoes (low trail trails).

I want to look cute and hiking-ready but not too "hardcore" hiking. I also want to be able to transition into dinner, which I'd imagine would be somewhere casual.

We're both really into the outdoors...and I've never put much thought into what I wear hiking, so I am kind of laughing at myself. But hey-I like to be fashionable. FWIW-my town is in the PNW-it's outdoorsy and very casual.

So...fashion H&F ladies. A) yoga type black pants B.) Hiking pants  C.) old jeans (which I never hike in, but I camp in?)

  • Go with the hiking pants.  If you try too hard to look "cute," you'll either be uncomfortable or look like you're trying too hard when you're hiking (or both).

You can avoid looking too "hardcore" just by leaving the big ole backpack at home, not wearing a bandana on your head, and maybe a little mascara/lip gloss.

    Have fun!

Thanks! I'll certainly add some girlish charm. :)

  • Aww... This made me think of my first date with my husband.  We did a winter hike up a nearby mountain.  I don't remember what I wore, but I do remember that I was busting my ass to keep up with him!

Wear the hiking pants.  If they noticeably swoosh, then laugh about it.

     Have fun!

  • I'm late but I wear hiking skirts over running tights a lot and I think I look cute!
