Went to the Dr... knee bursitis!
Told me to take aleeve, do lots of stretching, and get fit for shoes. He said from my shoes I most likely overpronate. He said to scale back the running- like go back to week 2 of C25K. I think I'll take a full week off first though! I'm on my feet all day at work so its hard to rest! Anyone deal with this? Should I even try to keep running? I really like it, but if this is how I'm starting I fear for the future!
Re: Went to the Dr... knee bursitis!
i just lurk but i feel your pain (literally). I have it in my right shoulder and it's awful!! I can't lift my arm past elbow height at some times. try pulling off a sweater-agony!!
apparently it is a result of the tendonitis i have in my shoulder that was brought on by continuous bad things-carrying a heavy bag to work every day, using the pull down machines at the gym (which brough everything to an awful standstill). i had a catscan because i swore that i ripped my shoulder tendon. i didn't obviously, but then went to see an orthopedic surgeon. he told me to stay away from the machines at the gym (and coincidentally the treadmills becuase they'll wreck your knees) and do yoga instead for 70% of my workouts. the other 30 is a mix of cardio, pilates etc.. wtih only very light weights and i can't do certain movements because i know the shoulder will hurt me for days. i totally had to revamp my workouts-but it's worked like a charm. that 83 year old semi-retired doctor knew what the hell he was talking about.
i'm 36 so i had the same concern about how can i continue to excercise in a matter that wont come back to haunt me later in life. he was right. doing the majority of yoga mixed iwth the other types has really worked.
good luck
This, and having had knee bursitis from running, is what got me into inline skating. Great exercise and so, so much fun!
