Apply to 2 jobs at same company?

Can you apply to two jobs at the same company?  I don't want to seem indecisive, but both jobs look great, I'm qualified for both, and I really wouldn't care which I got (if I were lucky enough to get either!)  But might it be seen as a negative to apply to two jobs?  Overkill?  If not, do I create two cover letters, or refer to both positions in the same cover letter?

I don't know - I may be answering my own question - it seems desperate to me.  I should probably just pick one.  What do you think?

  • I would pick one and then if you get an interview and feel comfortable with the hiring manager, mention that you're interested in both positions.

  • Ditto the pp.  Just as a for-instance: last summer I served on 2 search committees for 2 different jobs at my campus.  There were several people who applied for both jobs, which obviously I realized as I was going through resumes for both positions.  It made the applicants seem like they were just grabbing for whatever they could get...whether that was their intention or not.

  • I actually did that with my current company. One was a much better fit and that is my current position.  I don't think it looks bad to apply for more than one if you are qualified for either role.
