Help! Acne question

I went off my birth controls pills in November and have been dealing with acne ever since. I never had an issue with it before so I have no arsenal to use. Clearly the products I am using aren't doing much at all.  Any product recs are greatly appreciatd.

Would a clarisonic help? Hurt?

Re: Help! Acne question

  • If your skin can tolerate benzoyl peroxide, I believe it is really effective at least for me, though I am a little sensitive to it.  The DDF BP 5% gel with tea tree oil is really great.

For something milder, the Dr. dennis gross/md skincare trifix clearing lotion really helps me.  I think it keeps it under control pretty good. It helps them go away pretty quickly.

And finally the Mario badescu healing cream really helps them heal if I have a few stubborn spots.

I've been washing my face with dove soap and/or neutrogena stress control cleanser.. then follow it with mario badescu cucumber lotion (its not a lotion its a toner).  This toner still gets makeup off even after I wash my face twice!

Then moisturizing is important and I use murad skin perfecting lotion.

  • I'm dealing with the same issue. I'm using Mario badescu buffering lotion and proactive refining mask as an overnight treatment. Also love the la Roche posay acne products.
  • I feel your pain.....My skin was perfect until going off BC 6 months ago.

For me, the Clarisonic has been the best solution. My acne started clearing up within a week of use. I've also had luck with the Murad acne line, but I prefer using the Clarisonic and more neutral skin products.

I used the La Roche Posay acne products when I had stubborn body acne, and it cleared away really nicely! For good!

  • antibiotic clindamycin gel (from the dermatologist), a dairy free diet (dairy has natural hormones), and nutrogena body clear body wash for any body acne has been my winning combo of products.  I knw that everyon is different, but I fought acne for years and years and now only have the occasional breakout.

  • Even i had this problem and it was like hell to me..I tried so many anti-acne  products but there was no control..Then one of my friend suggested to use a baby soap like Johnson's baby  and also wash the face with hot bearable water always..And you won't believe it was miracle. Now my face is all clear from acne...
  • I've had terrible acne for a while now and my dermatologist keeps switching me from topical ointment to topical ointment. Getting very frustrated and now hope to find some kind of natural remedy that might help since nothing seems to be working!
  • I've had recent success with the Juice Beauty blemish clearing line.  I received a sample of the face wash in my Birchbox last month and was shocked at the results in only a week.  I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and continue to see results.  I love that it's all organic.

Before that I was on a prescription for Clenia.  It worked in the past for me, but not so much this time around.

  • I say save yourself the headache and money of trying to trouble shoot your skin issue on your own.  I've wasted so much money on products in hopes to get rid of acne and fade dark spots.  I'd go see a dermatologist and see what they recommend since everybody's skin is different and reacts differently to washes/treatments.  Just got back from seeing a dermatologist and we've got a plan laid out on what we're going to do.  I'm confident that we'll get results.  He's also DH's dermatologist and he has a different routine than the one I'm about to start but it works for him.  Hopefully I'll have good results as well.

I second just heading to a dermatologist.  After investing tons of money skipping from product line to product line, it was worth the $25 co-pay to have a doctor prescribe a generic topical and one round of antibiotics.
