Help Plan our Trip

We are trying to plan our 6th anniversary trip this may/june. We enjoy going for around 2 weeks. Our budget is around $5,000-6,000 including airfare. We live on the east coast- washington dc. We have already enjoyed traveling to riviera maya, cabo, and cozumel mexico, Aruba, Grand Cayman(our favorite), and St. Kitts and Nevis together. We try and stay at small villas/condos, although we have done small resorts as well. We have thought about Ireland, but airfare seems a bit pricey right now. We like to be adventurous- water activities/hiking/sightseeing, but also enjoy just laying on the beach relaxing. Any suggestions on islands, or countries and more specific places to stay would be perfect. I know this is very broad.

Re: Help Plan our Trip

  • Have you thought about Portugal or Spain? They can be pretty reasonably done if you like staying in villas or condos, and time it right. Plus its cheaper to go there airfare-wise than to Hawaii or that direction.

  • I would take advantage of the bad economy and go to Ireland, Spain or Portugal like the last posted said.

If you're set on a tropical vacation, how about Costa Rica or Belize? Both countries are reasonably priced and offer many outdoor activities!

Personally we're heading to Curacao next month but we're there to scuba dive and have heard good things about the warm water and good visibility.

  • I found a flight from Honolulu to Barcelona for less than what it would have cost for us to go to Beijing.  Tell me how that makes sense!  My mom payed a whole lot more last summer to fly from S FL, so I'm guessing they're struggling for business right now.

Having not been there but having dreamt about it for years, I'd say Spain would be great.  Beaches and mountains.  Plus food and wine which makes every trip better :)

ETA I bought my tix less than 2 weeks before travel, and they were still that much cheaper.  Something like 700 less pp.  So, you might be able to jump on a deal right now.

  • I would do Hawaii and split the time between Oahu and the Big Island.  Perfect for adventure, sightseeing, and beach relaxing.
  • Hawaii sounds like it fits the bill great. Relaxation and also adventure. I would also second Costa Rica. We had a lovely time there last December. They have beaches, jungle, wildlife, volcanoes, natural springs, and lots of good coffee :)
