Moving across country?

Hi-

My boyfriend of 5 yrs are moving from San Diego to Baltimore in a couple of wks . I will beginning an accelerated ,rigorous program at Johns Hopkins at the end of May & can use some advice on moving across the US. It  is bittersweet move, because I am leaving such a great place with a great support group. I'm trying to decide if I want to fly to Kentucky(visit my family) & have my boyfriend drive there to meet me than continue on to Baltimore together. My boyfriend actually suggested this awhile back. I haven't done the trip & not sure if I want to be stuck in the car for days.

Re: Moving across country?

  • My husband has done that trip. He enjoyed it and stopped at fun places along the way. But it sounds like you are not a car trip kind of person.

  • I have moved across the country 4 times and I have never driven. I always hire movers and then fly. That said I did drive across the country with an d boyfriend and it was a blast- there is a ton to see in this country. If you have the time map out some things you want to see and make a plan.

Why is your boyfriend driving? Is he moving too or did you hire him as your mover?

  • We moved from NY to Tucson in 2003 and from Tucson to Baltimore in 2006.

I loved driving cross country and seeing the sites.  We planned our stops around things we wanted to see/do.  I think you would have fun riding along.

I am not typically on this board - I came on to search for wedding shower advice for a friend.  PM me if you want some advice/tips/anything about Baltimore.  We have lived here for just about 6 years and love it.

  • I've heard the south route is the best, but I have no idea if driving from KY to MD is even worth it.

  • I hope you got a schollie, b/c JHopz is not worth the loans.

Also, our weather sucks and half the town is a kitsch factory.

Anyway. Driving from KY to MD is like a ten hour trip. Take an over night in VA somewhere. Walla.

We did that when we were kids, visited Mammoth Caves or some crap.

Fly from CA though.  Why is he driving?

    I'm fabulous.
