I posted last week about my hip bursitis, which has been downright awful despite more stretching and icing. It's even now hurting while I run, which it never did before. As a result, I made an appt for 5/8 with an orthopedic doc.
I posted/whined about it on facebook, and my mother called me the next morning. She's also been having hip problems and is going to an ortho next month! Then she told me that my brother had hip problems last year, and he went to the ortho. His doc told him that he has a congenital hip issue that is causing the pain, and he'd likely end up having to replace the hip before he turns 50 (he's 26).
I've done more research on the condition, and apparently it is more common in women (check) and the first born (check), run sin families (check, plus my grandmother had terrible hips that were both replaced at 58), and can go undetected until adulthood (check?). That hip has always been a bit strange. It clicks when I do certain movements with it, and that foot points outward rather than straight forward when I am standing straight (the left foot points forward).
Anyway, I'm more just venting my concerns, but I won't have any real answers for weeks. My first 5k is 5/5, and I'm torn about what to do with it. I can get to the finish line, but it might take me so long that it would just be embarrassing.

I don't know yet, that's the concerning part. I don't want to give up MMA if I don't have to! Running is probably the first on the chopping block. We'll see after my ortho appt.
Figures all this is going on when the scale finally starts moving.
Are you referring to femoroacetabular impingement? I have it, along with osteoarthritis in my hips. I also have about 10 other relatives with it. My brother had surgery on both hips before he turned 40. I was planning on having one hip done this summer, but when I stopped running, the pain stopped. I still have the bony prominences and areas in my hip joint with completely eroded cartilage, but as long as I'm not running, the daily discomfort is tolerable.
Do you have an MRI scheduled?
My mother nor brother could remember the name, so he said he'd look it up when he got home (he's travelling at the moment). That sounds about right though, I guess we'll see! I imagine I'll have an MRI after the visit with the ortho in May.
I've never had one before, what should I expect? Will I have to remove all my piercings (insight into me, I have 6 piercings... one in my ear will be super challenging to remove haha!).
This isn't going to be my favorite thing ever
I'll keep you posted!
