Re-upholstering, the lazy way--a question.

I have this chair I really like, but the color of the cushions doesn't match the rest of our furniture. I bought some fabric that matches but have never done a re-upholstery project, and I don't want to ruin this chair. Since having it done by pros is not in the budget, I was going to velcro the fabric over the cushions and just leave it that way for now. It will cover the mis-matched fabric, I can't ruin the chair this way, and while it won't last forever, it seems like it will do for the time being. As long as I measure the fabric cover I am making right, the velcro idea will work, right? I have velcro-on covers for my dining room chairs from IKEA, and they stay on fine--never had a problem. So this would really be the same thing, only I am making it myself. Are there any dumb beginner's mistakes I am likely to make with this, though? I can't think of one, but of course if I thought of it, it wouldn't be a dumb mistake.

If the cushions are screwed in, you can remove them and staple the new fabric on. Can you PIP the chair? This would make it easier to see if that would work.
