Hiking Pants Recommendations?
I'm heading to Peru soon for a three-week trip. We'll be sandboarding, doing tons of walking/trekking and also hiking the Inca Trail. Does anyone have any recommendations for hiking pants which will be good for these activities? There are so many brands out there I'm not sure where to start.
For extra info, I always get the "short" size in pants or have them hemmed.

I just returned form Peru where I hiked the Inca Trail. I hiked the entire thing in Lulu Lemon yoga pants. I was fine. If I was to do it again I'd go with something quick dry. It rains a lot on the trail and my pants never fully dried at night.
I've had good luck with Sugoi, Patagonia, and Columbia. I do a fair bit of hiking, backpacking and adventure travel and I'd guess that 90% of my travel clothes are those three brands.
For the trail I'd recommed bring a long a pair of long johns/thermals. It got chilly at night and I was grateful to be able to put my thermals on underneath my pajamas.
Really, for me, I look at reviews online and then price and decide that way. I also find that a lot of these brands fit me very differently, so I'd maybe go to a brick and mortar store and try some on first to see which fit best on you.
I do a lot of hiking and outdoor travel and I really love my EMS brand pants. They're much cheaper than the bigger name brands and have held up very well. I've had two pairs for over 5 years now and with very heavy use they still look as good as new. They're also good in height (I'm only 5'2") where most other brands are not for me.
I also have a pair of Marmot pants that button into capris that I love, but they were pretty expensive. And I have several pair of Columbia and Northface that are nice as well.
+1 for the EMS store brand.
I wear "short" length too, and they fit me really well. I have two pairs of their zip off pants, and one pair of stretchier material pants that roll up (with the button things to make them capris) that I really like. They're all I wear for hiking.
I have a couple Columbia pairs that I love but my favorite (& unfortunately the most expensive) are Mountain Hardwear. (they are very similar to these http://www.rei.com/product/829529/mountain-hardwear-yuma-convertible-pants-womens-short) One thing I really like about them is when you unzip the bottom they are more of capri's than shorts.
