fricb and others who know destin...

So I finally narrowed my search down to 2 houses. I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1- are there no sidewalks in these neighborhoods? I'm on google maps street view to see what the walk would be like to the beach but it appears no sidewalks except on big major roads (98?)- do ppl just walk on the street or does every drive.

2- the driving thing- can you take golf carts to the beach & if so where do you park them? If no golf carts & walking is a pain, where do you park your car, esp if the house comes w/ some sort of 'private' beach access pass?

3- green island way or calatrava court, can anyone give me insight into these areas?

THANKS!

Re: fricb and others who know destin...

  • What neighborhoods? The neighborhood our house is in has sidewalks, but it is not right on the beach. It looks like Green Island Way is closer to Sandestin, and I can't tell where Calatrava Court is. I have never seen anyone drive a golf cart to the beach (or on the main streets, but have in our neighborhood). I wouldn't worry about walking if the house has private beach access pass, although I am not sure what that is.

Sorry I am not more helpful :( If you drive you can drive to Henderson State Park, across the street from WalMart on 98 and pay like $6 for the car for the day and the beach is usually less crowded there, and it is a nice beach.

  • I don't know the neighborhood names :(.

Calatrava Court appears to be near Captain Daves on the Gulf & Kenny D's Beach Bar if those ring any bells? Not far from Four Prong Lake?

Interesting about the golf cart. Both houses talk abou tthem in the description so I emailed the owners asking about the golf carts & whether you can drive them to the beach.  I hate to be primadonna-ish but when someone advertises a house as a 'quick' walk to the beach and I am schlepping two 3 yr olds and the crap for them & 3 adults, I am not looking for a long trek on the sides of roads, kwim? Hmmmmm......will keep looking into it thanks!

I would imagine if they say you can then you probably can, the only beach I have been to is the one I mentioned above and you have to get on 98 to get there and there is no way you would drive a golf cart on 98! They seem close to the beach.

Sorry I am not more help!
