Blog people, a question for you

I have been asked by several people to start two different blogs.  One will be following the "adventures" of my family.  The other will be about Savannah.  Which blog site do y'all prefer?  I've never done this before.  I'd like something fairly simple as far as set up and maintaining it.

Also, how does one go about trying to get advertising and such on a blog?

Recommendations?

Re: Blog people, a question for you

  • Why not do both? Make a blog and you can add tabs are the top to segregate information. I don't advertise so I can't help you there but I use Wordpress. It's way easier than blogger IMO and you can buy a .com for $17/year.

    *fixed typo. Stupid iPhone

  • Go with Wordpress...you won't regret it.  There's a learning curve to it but once you get it down it has a lot more functionality than Blogger can ever give you.

If you need help with it you can always ask me.

  • If you're looking to get advertising and you use WP, you'll need to buy your own domain.  WP hosted doesn't support ads.  I pay $70 a year for my host and I'm set up on a WP platform.

As far as getting ad revenue, a lot of people do AdSense which is a per click pay scale.  I didn't like it.  I have an advertising section on my blog that you can buy space directly.  I've also reached out to companies I like to see if they'd be willing to work with me.  You also have to remember to keep track of all the revenue you generate because it's taxable at the end of the year as are any products you get for giveaways and such.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably be picking your brain about it quite a bit.

I just started WP after being on blogger for years and I'm so lost it's not even funny.

Just where everything is. I'm used to blogger. It will just take some time.
