Are there any eye doctors/optometrists on here?

I am thinking of purchasing my (first!) Rx sunglasses. I am an eyeglass wearer 100% of the time (no contacts since I have bad dry eyes, and not a candidate for Lasik or ICL). The glasses I am wearing right now is -7.50 and -7.00, and my new Rx strength is -8.50, and -7.25 respectively. (I haven't gotten a new script for over 5 years). The sales agent at Lenscrafters told me that she is concerned I will get a headache going from my current glasses and then going to my new Rx sunglasses (with the higher strength). What do you think- do you think I will get a headache from the stronger script?

  • I'm a technician at an ophthalmology office... The -7.00 to -7.25 is nothing, and the -7.50 to -8.50 is a decent change, but not crazy... I say try them. It's sunglasses, not your regular ones. Not like you're reading all day with them! Though you should probably update your other pair too!! Rx sunglasses are awesome- I have polarized ones and loooooove them!

  • Agreed - I wear Maui Jim's athletic (running/biking) sunglasses & they are fabulous!
  • I'm not an expert and only speaking from personal experience... I had a pair of rx sunglasses (recently lost, RIP) for probably 7 years. My regular glasses rx changed probably twice, maybe three times, in that time. Probably no more than -.50 or -.75 though. I never had any trouble with my sunglasses being slightly weaker than my regular glasses.
