I had horrible acne as a teenager and went on Accutane for a few months. Once I got over the crazy drying out part, I had great skin from that point on, wtih the exception of a zit here or there. I was on BCP for about 10 years which probably helped as well. I went off BCP in August 10 and started breaking out pretty bad in summer '11 (once my period finally showed back up) and I really haven't been able to stop it since then. I went on BCP for a few months back in winter, went off again and just went on again last month. Yes, I wonder if that's screwing with me a bit? I didn't "need" to be on it, so I wanted my body to just get used to working wtihout it. I went on them again to see if they would help my skin. They did for a bit, but now it's bad to crazy gross skin.
I can't stop breaking out. It's really only my chin area, but I feel like I've tried everything and every topical solution /cleanser and nothing seems to work. I hate it. It's like a new zit daily, and not small ones. I never used to have to wear foundation, but now I feel I do because my skin is gross. I'm becoming frustated, especially because I'm dating and who wants to date a 30 year old with the skin of a 13 year old?
I've seen several of you have gone back on Accutane. That was the only thing that worked for me a kid but I HATED the part where my skin dried out horribly. I think I was on a pretty high dose, but it was to a point where I cried. I don't want to go through that again, even if it's for a few weeks. Those of you that have gone back on it again...was it as effective? How long did it take to start working? did your skin dry out?
Anything else you can recommend? I hate this! The scarring is the worst part of it...as hard as I try to avoid it, I can't.
Re: Accutane users: Questions
I did two rounds of accutane as a teen and had pretty clear skin until I had an IUD inserted and developed pretty horrible jawline acne (deep, painful acne that lasted forever and scarred). I found that switching to organic dairy and keeping everything that comes near my face SUPER clean (i.e. pillow cases, phone, etc.) works really well for me. I am religious about washing my sheets in hot water twice a week. I am also using anti-acne cleanser with the clarisonic heads for sensitive skin. I only break out now when I am super stressed (maybe once in the last 8 months). I hope that maybe this can help you too.

I did a round as a teen and my skin was fine until after I had my son. My skin was just out of control. Did another round. I had very little dryness this time. I did it in warm weather and was probably more dedicated about moisturizing than I was as a teen.
GL! I think any dryness is worth it to avoid scarring.
Thanks guys. I'm just hesitant because it's my chin area but it's gotten really bad recently. I'm going to ask around for a derm. recommendation and just go from there.
