Working out with a heavy bag?

I have been looking into switching up my cross training (still riding my bike once a week, but taking a break from swimming.)  We have a heavy bag hanging in the basement that DH uses.  Do any of you "box" (I am not even sure what you would call it!) Any recommended websites for workouts?  Idea about calorie burn for that kind of workout?  Thanks!

Re: Working out with a heavy bag?

  • I would find a kickboxing studio and take a few classes.  I feel like learning the basic kicks/punches would be much easier with an instructor.  Idk how many calories are burned, but when I took kickboxing classes I would be dripping with sweat when I was done.

  • I love boxing, we use a heavy bag in class often and then I will also use it when there's no training going on and I need some extra cardio. I agree with looking around for a class so you can learn proper technique. I am going to dig through my email to find some decent workouts for you from my coach. They take 15-30 min each depending upon what you're doing, and they are intense!

Give me a bit though, work is busy this morning :)
