I went for an ultrasound today and am measuring about 6 weeks, 2 days. The doctor thinks he saw the beginning flicker of a heartbeat, but wasn't comfortable confirming. He did tell me I could resume my exercising like I had been before I was pregnant, including running.
Now, I'm scared. I know that there's really not much I could do to cause a miscarriage, but I've like psyched myself out and am scared. I know a lot of you ladies are having/have had healthy pregnancies that included running and lifting (my 2 favorite things.) I just need someone to tell me that 1. the fear is normal, 2. I can't hurt the baby, and 3. go for a f*cking run because it's gorgeous out!
Disclaimer: I run 11 minute miles. I'm not breaking any records here. I have been lifting at the gym and using the ellipticals. Is running really that much worse?
Re: Got doctor clearance to run
If the doctor said it was ok...
I was scared at first also, so I know where you are coming from and your thoughts are totally normal. No, running isn't "worse" IMO.

I did 2 easy miles on my treadmill. I figured I'd start slow, short, and stay home, just in case I felt any pain, etc. I will probably do that a few more times before I venture out. Or maybe not. Who knows? I do have a bit of cramping now, but I think that's just because I haven't run in so long that my body's like, WTF did you just do?

I ran when I was 6 weeks pregnant with twins. And 16 weeks. And 26 weeks.
As I think you know, they survived it
I replaced my garmin though with a HR monitor. Not that I believe the 140-rule, but it gives you a good gauge on how hard you are pushing it. And, its nice not to know how slow you go.
I think one of the nice things about running while pregnant is that its OK to be slow...or even walk...
It sounds like your knee is better!
My knee was FABULOUS! I did a slow 2 miles. I'm a little crampy now, but I thinks it's more that my body hasn't done that kind of movement in a while now. No bleeding (sorry if that's TMI), so I'm not super concerned. Like I said, I've still been going to the gym, doing the elliptical, lifting, etc. I want to be healthy and fit this pregnancy. Or at least not feel super guilty when I pig out on bagels all day. Whatever.

My Nest Bio and Cycling Advice
The baby is completely protected, and extremely tiny with essentially no weight contribution. If your body is used to running, then run. I've had 2 losses (missed m/c's), and from those experiences learned to accept that ultimately at this point a person really has a very limited impact on whether the pregnancy will last during the first 14wks or so. I didn't run at that point; but I completely cut back on my activity both times and it made no difference. Your placenta isn't even fully functioning and transferring nutrition until about 10wks along. Be practical (no roller coasters, no binge drinking, eat well if you can, and it's probably not the best time to go for personal best times), but it really is about trusting nature and your body. H&H 9 months to you!
ETA: definitely keep up with your water intake if you're keeping up with running, sooo important while pregnant and a great habit to get into now so it's second nature when you're futher along (even if the peeing gets annoying).
I'm late on this but as long as your doctor said it was okay, I say go for it!
I ran throughout the entire pregnancy and baby Madison seems to be doing just fine. And, believe me, the anxiety and paranoia are real and it never really goes away. I would go through spurts where I would run and have no problem and then other times I was worried I was hurting my baby.
Just go slow and walk when you need.
Thanks for all your advice and support, ladies!
I've actually done two short (2 mile) runs. Honestly, by the end of 2 miles, I'm exhausted (plus, I've got 24/7 nausea and fatigue, so I don't think that's helping, either.)
