Wilton dessert decorating classes

Hi ladies,

Would anyone recommend taking the wilton cake decorating classes from a local craft store? I love to bake, but would like to get better with piping and frosting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

 Happy Hump Day!

Re: Wilton dessert decorating classes

  • I took all four of them from my local Michael's store.  It was fun and taught me quite a lot.  You could certainly learn on your own but the classes were a nice break from the kid and DH and I enjoyed them.

  • Thank you for letting me know! I love to learn new things, so I wanted to make sure it was worthwhile!
  • I am taking the 1st class and I am on my 3rd week.....They are very good and I learn a lot-however it gets expensive with all of the supplies that you buy

  • Thank you for the heads up! How much have you had to buy for the class? I have pans at the house, but I don't have the frosting tips. I can imagine getting those does get expensive!
  • There is a lesson plan book that is about 5 dollars, the class kit with is 35.00 and the spatulas, merigue powder, decorating bags, couplers, tupperware, cake turner, wipes, powdered sugar and cake mix weekly, food coloring, cake boards, cake leveler, flower squares....the list goes on! I prob spent 150 for the first class and all supplies

  • I took all four of them, and I really enjoyed them! I recommend using those 40% or 50% off coupons to purchase the supplies, though. It can add up fast!
  • I think with the 40% coupon the kit was under $20. The book was included with the tuition. In the summer Micheal's usually has the classes at a discount too.  A lot of the other thins you don't need or can improvise. The teacher at ours would also share some items you might only need a bit of like gel. The first course uses buttercream so you can pickup a big tub of Crisco and powdered sugar and a color or too our instructor never insisted we follow the cake of the week but some may. They are fun classes.

  • You will love the classes. I took the first two, and while a lot of it I could have watched some youtube videos and taught myself, it was nice to have the instructor right there with me and correcting what I was doing wrong.
