Last job app related question, I promise

Do I send an e-mail to the person in charge of hiring (who was my English teacher and dorm parent who I worked with as an RA) explaining that I'm very interested in applying but haven't done so because it will likely take DH a long time to get a visa, and ask if there's anything they can do re: immigration? I'm wondering because I know there have been a number of Canadians who have worked there in the past.

I'm so sorry to be asking so many stupid questions. I just don't have any other North Americans around to bounce ideas off of - Spanish DH would say "do it!"

Re: Last job app related question, I promise

  • I don't think it would hurt - maybe that person can give you some info on the inside track & whether they can help with visas

  • It sounds like you have a good relationship with the person hiring. He was your teacher, right? In that case, I think it's good to be honest and upfront. I did this regarding a job a few years ago. I knew the person hiring very well and had worked with him in the past. It was a "dream job," but I was reluctant to give up the flexibility I had working for myself when DD was still very little. We had a great conversation about the hours, what kind of travel schedule and hours-in-office were expected, etc. and in the end, I knew there was no way I could make it work with my childcare situation. He appreciated me being upfront instead of wasting his time with the formal job application process and I felt like I had enough information to make a good decision.

    Good luck.

Thank you both for your help.

I sent the e-mail. I hope I did the right thing.
