Revamping my resume: questions
Hi ladies,
revamping my outdated resume.
EDUCATION: I am listing school name/BA in... /date/GPA. Do I have to add "with honors, *** laude, etc...?)
I have on top a summary of qualification and skills. Do I have to include them?
Example: able to identify operational deficiencies and provide solutions, excellent communication skills, word, ppt, etc...
Also can you rec a site where I can look at resume to get an idea of the format etc...?
TIA
Re: Revamping my resume: questions
I'd leave off the GPA unless it was stellar or you're a super recent grad. If I graduated cuum laude, I'd be listing it.
You don't *have* to include everything, but an experience summary is a very popular way to kick off a resume these days. It gives the reader a quick snapshot of you so they can decide quickly if you're a good fit or not. However, most summaries are more like, "Administrative assistant with 12 years of experience. Coordinate projects and schedules for a large accounting firm, working with the Executive VP of HR. Proficient in [relevant computer programs]."
I'd stay away from soft skills if you can.
MS Word has a ton of resume templates. Google [your field] resumes and you'll find a lot of examples.

I disagree about a summary because hiring managers want a quick and slick, easily readable summary of your accomplishments. Bullet points do this. And I say accomplishments, not necessarily duties. Make them quantifiable, like "increased sales 20% with new online checkout process." This makes you stand out from people who just list duties, "sold product to customers," "answered phones," etc.
